Featured User – morgan favours quality over quantity

When I came across a fascinating answer on beer consumption by morgan I knew I had found another Answers legend. It isn’t that he has answered 550+ questions or even that he has amassed 22,500+ points. The reason why the Yahoo!7 Answers Team admire morgan so much is that he has an 84% Best Answers rate. Wow!

From a complicated answer on calculating sinx with Maclaurin series, to a practical answer on whether you should buy a laptop or a desktop PC, morgan seems to have it covered. He also can tell you what causes an egg to float in water when you add salt and  how to do that coin-through- the-bottle magic trick

Putting quality over quantity, morgan says he “enjoys Yahoo! Answers as a diversion; it’s fun to research questions and try to provide the best answer. I’ve only answered a moderate number of questions, but when I decide to answer one, I usually try to reference an authoritative source, provide a mathematical derivation, or include programming language source code.”

“Because I’m careful with my research, most people seem satisfied with my answers. However, my favourite question is a counter-example to this: Where is antifreeze made in icefish?  Some of the other responses were both sceptical and humorous (even though I used the National Science Foundation, Science News magazine, and the British Antarctic Survey as my sources).

I often answer questions in the Computers & Internet>Programming & Design category, because I’ve been a software engineer long enough to have programmed with punch cards and used Unix on a PDP11.”

I am looking forward to reading more from morgan in the future and highly recommend you look through his answers as a good guide on how to write fantastic content.

Keeping watch on your favourites

As we barrel through our 10 million answers barrier, many of you have noticed that it’s getting harder to keep track of your favourite questions and answers. No worries–this is where the Watch List can help you out. In a nutshell, our Watch List lets you keep track of your favourite questions in the system, so you don’t have to jump through any hoops to keep track of them yourself.

Any question can be tracked simply by clicking the Add to Watch List link next to every question. Now this question will always appear at the bottom of your My Q&A

Answers Resurrected!

<list of the known and reported bugs so you know that we’re on it! Thanks for your continued patience as we iron out the wrinkles.>>

We’re back!

First, apologies for the delays in getting this up.  The database upgrade we performed this weekend was actually a testament to all you Yamsters contributing so much great content during the last 6 months.  Now that we have a bigger database, we’ll continue to add millions of new questions and answers every day.

If you suffered from any of the Answers withdrawal  symptoms this weekend, it may be a sign that you need the Answerholics Anonymous.

As you use the new database, if you notice anything that is not working properly, please let us know. We’ve opened up a Thread here to add.

Here are things that you should expect to find:

Tabbed View of Questions You’ll see that you can now see the 20 most recent questions on the home page and category browse page for Open, Resolved and Undecided questions with tabs on the top to navigate from one set of questions to another.  We’ve also redesigned the way you move from page to page.

Country Filter We also added a way to filter questions by country.  So now you can filter all questions so that you view questions asked by other Yamsters from Australia.  You’ll find the Country Filter on the left column, below the Categories. Toggle between questions from Australia, or all questions from the English speaking countries.

Forum and Other Links Below Categories
We streamlined the top part of Answers.  If you’re looking for the Forum and other links to Answers Blog etc., look below the categories, above the Country Filter on the home page.

Big Ask, Answer, Discover Boxes on Category Pages
When you’re looking at the list of questions in specific categories, like Society & Culture or Sports, you’ll continue to see the big boxes for Ask, Answer and Discover that you see on the Home Page.

Best Answer Bug Fixed
The Best Answers %  on the My Q&A page has been fixed.

We’ll continue to update this blog throughout the day.
