The news has been full of Princess talk lately, firstly with Australia’s own Princess Mary finally christening her three month old baby daughter at what was described as an intimate ceremony (i.e. only 140 onlookers) with her husband Crown Prince Frederick and toddler son Prince Christian looking on. There was much speculation about what the little girl would be named, and anyone who had placed a bet probably lost money as the front runners of Henrietta, Ingrid and Margarethe all missed out on “first place” to the non traditional name of Isabella.

Across the water from where Princess Mary and her family were celebrating, in the UK another charmed and much loved royal was remembered with a memorial concert. It was ten years ago that Princess Diana was killed in Paris, but her birthday was chosen to mark the anniversary rather than the date of her death. Answers has been abuzz with talk of the concert, from users asking which songs were played and from people simply taking a moment to remember the contributions that Princess Diana made. It is amazing to think that she achieved so much for charity during her life, but that she would have only been 46 this year.

Still on the topic of well known females…well…sort of…beached coal carrier the Pasha Bulker was finally refloated last night, almost a month after becoming stranded off a beach in New South Wales during high seas caused by the massive storms that lashed the coast for most of June. It seems the poor old ship has suffered a great deal of damage, and while the worst case scenario of an oil leak was mostly avoided it will be some time before she is put to use again.

The Pasha Bulker was becoming something of a tourist drawcard for the Newcastle area… I was picturing them setting up a restaurant on board for visitors had they not been able to get her back out to sea!

This week’s featured user – Glenn B

You may already have noticed this week’s featured user had you asked or answered a question about cycling – he is a top contributor in that category with a 60% best answer rate. Glenn B has achieved Level 5 status since he joined Answers last December and is showing no signs of slowing down!

An environmentalist who lives not far from Queensland’s capital city Brisbane, Glenn B’s interests include raising his small children, camping, exploring alternative fuel possibilities such as solar and hydro power and hybrid cars, sailing, bush walking and, of course, cycling. He is an advocator of cycling as an environmentally friendly form of transport and also has an answer for pretty much any question relating to bicycles that you can think of.

In his own words –

“My favourite section is cycling. It is a great way to get around and it also combats both obesity and C02 emissions. I really like encouraging people to try cycling and not just to ride to the corner store. With a bit of effort most people can get themselves fit enough to tackle distances well over 100km.

I am the type of person who wants to know how everything works in great detail. I’ve been pulling things apart and putting them back together since I was a toddler. I’m also studied up on fitness and training techniques.

I get a lot out of Answers. I get plenty of satisfaction when an asker really appreciates and answer. I like voting almost as much as answering… reading other people’s answers and checking the websites is very educations. There are some really witty and clever people out there.”

Congrats to Glenn B for being such a great contributor – and if you have any bicycle or environmental questions keep an eye out for his response!
