Who is your favourite role model and why?

Tags: ,

No matter how confident and competent you are, everyone looks up to someone.  Even the greatest footballers, politicians or celebrities have someone they aspire to being like. President Elect Obama, a man not short on confidence who’s due to be sworn into the most powerful job in the world next week, said recently every time he reads Abraham Lincoln’s second inaugural address he gets “intimidated.”

In light of this and his new film Role Models, Hollywood actor Seann William Scott has a question for us all:

“Who is your favourite role model and why?”

You can see Seann putting his question to the Answers community in the video above. In fact he’s even answered it himself. Scott explains…

“My greatest role model was my dad. I could give you a funny answer… although he was funny. I was lucky I had a great dad, he was kinda like Bill Murray and Chevy Chase: a superfunny guy. I was told some really great factory jokes.”

So who is your favourite role model? A teacher or a superhero? Someone who inspired you or someone who you aspire to be? Answer Seann’s question and let us know.

  1. i guess my role model would be my mum .I became a single mum at a young age [20 with a 3yr old and 2 yr old] and my mum has supported me no matter how bad i failed ,or how terrible life would seem to get .Even when her and my dad split[after a 30 marriage] a couple of years ago .Since then we have both grown into very strong independant women .Recently she’s supported me in my choice to work part time and return to college [i am 28] ….and helps me when i need a break by taking the kids out or offering to babysit. It’s meant alot to be close with her ,because when i was a teen we weren’t close and often i pushed her away ….but she never gave up on me .
Shes moving overseas soon and i am supporting her choice ,because although i know i’ll miss her i want her to be happy ….just like she’s helped me grow into a more confident ,content person.

  5. Well, Jason, my role model has always been my ol’ man but now I have another. Recently an Aussie soldier received the Australian Victoria Cross for bravery in a combat situation fighting the war on terrorism in the Middle East. He drew enemy fire upon himself to save the lives of other injured people. Although he was not injured himself, he was willing to sacrifice his own safety to help others. He is now a role model to many, many people around the world for his actions.

  6. My role model is my Grandmother. In her lifetime, she’s buried three husbands, 2 sons, her parents, 3 brothers, 1 sister, 2 very close friends and 2 grandchildren.
She also has had countless medical issues.

But, she remains happy, optimistic and always smiling. She takes what comes in stride and moves on. She accepts everyone for who they are and never judges anyone. She is kind, thoughtful, loving, unconditional.

    She is my best friend.

  10. My role model would be Mr. Billie Joe Armstrong from Green Day. He is so inspiring on so many different levels. His lyrics are so powerful and the songs always encourage me to pick up a guitar and play it. Billie Joe is someone I have always looked up to and I think that, for me, is a perfect role model.

  13. My role models are the soldiers that fight for our country everyday, while the people they fight for are tucked away asleep at night. These guys work around the clock daily to keep you and me safe, and they do it tirelessly and sometimes without recognition. These guys are heroes and role models, so the next time you wake up and say, ‘I dont want to go to school, life isn’t fair’ Think about what these soldiers are doing, whether it be patrolling a street in Kandahar, or manning a checkpoint Iraq, think about these guys.
