I used to be really bad when it came to Mother’s day. Never got mum anything.

Now that I’ve moved overseas I’ve realised how hard my mum’s life is. Also mother’s day comes a week before my mum’s birthday. So this year I’m just going to call my mum on Mother’s day and then send her something nice for her birthday like a hand-made card with nice clothes etc.

You can make vouchers for a massage, or an invitation to your place for tea one night, offer to do some gardening or wash their windows.

Handprinted flowers. Trace and cut out the handprints of the kids. Either different coloured paper or painted handprints. When done, staple the pinky to the thumb, close to the palm of the the handprint and staple to a straw, that will act as the stem of the flower. Arrange as so, in a posey with a pretty ribbon or mums favourite vase.

Really personal and lovely for mum or anyone.

Home made flowers. Get the kids to trace their handprints on different coloured paper or paint their handprints on plain paper. When ready cut handprints out, roll them up loosely and staple the palm ends to straws(this will be the stem) and arrange them accordingly. They look choice, honestly. Arrange in a nice posey or mum favourite vase.

If you can’t visit send a card and ring telling her how much you love her and say thanks. I am sure hearing
your voice will be worth all the gifts in the world.

Make up a Promise Book for Weekly Hugs, chores, give her a flower from the garden, tell her you love her (often) you could call it an IOU book and decorate it with hearts and lots of kisses ( ‘X” or lipstick mouth)

You don’t have to spend on anything. Just make her sit down, ask if she would like a coffee or tea. Don’t make her stand up even to get the milk. Offer her some biscuits or sandwich. Then read her a poem telling her how much she is appreciated on Mother’s Day. Sing a song to her, “skinny marinl kidinky doo, i looovee you. i love you in the morning and in the afternoon, i love you in the evening and underneath the moon. oh skinny marink kidingky doo skinny marink kidoo i love you.”

Little things that she wouldn’t expect or thought you can’t, once you do it, would put tears in her eyes.
