What are your pet peeves?

Seeing this question today really made me laugh: Have you ever been in deep thought and had some random guy say, “smile it can’t be that bad”?

This has happened to me many times, and I’ve always wondered why would someone make a deliberate effort to make me smile? Do people really hate seeing others with a look of contemplation? Do they think being told to smile by a random stranger is really going to improve my mood? Or are they just a compassionate person who really is concerned.

Even if it is the latter, I’ve always found it patronising and rather annoying. To give someone a boost, I always think it’s better to give them something they didn’t expect, like open a door for them or even just flash them your own pearly whites. Much better than reaching out and tugging someone’s mouth into a smile as poor Neo had to put up with!

It made me think about other little things in life that get on my nerves. You know, those pet peeves that almost seem insignificant when they’re said out loud but when you’re having a bad day, boy do they grate on your nerves.

One of mine is the inappropriate use of mobile phones. I hate being out with friends who have a new love in their life and insist on texting or talking to them all night. Why hang out with me when you’ve obviously got someone more important to talk to? I also hate seeing people using their phone when they’re driving. Not only is it illegal, they are distracted from driving properly (I almost got run over by someone on their phone this morning when I was attempting to walk across the crossing).

The other thing that really gets my goat is the office kitchen. At every company I’ve worked at, the office kitchen has been a cesspit of dirty dishes, smelly fridges and food everywhere. I’ve never been able to understand it – we’re all adults, our mothers aren’t there to clean up after us and there’s a dishwasher right there! But still, no one manages to open it up and put their dishes in it. Do people live like that at home? Ew I hope not.

Aah I feel better now that’s all off my chest! So what are your silly little pet peeves?

  1. Cruelty to children and animals would be the worst thing anybody could do. Violence is bad concerning everyone. People shouldn’t be violent, but violence seems to be more prevalent these days. Every day on the news you hear about violence somewhere. It’s like things are going back to barbaric times. Sometimes I think that maybe the world would be better off wothout people in it. I think in some ways that animals are better than people – dogs or cats don’t ram planes into buildings or do these suicide bombings or any other sort of bombings. I think this world is getting worse, not better

  2. Believe it or not but there are many like me who have no interest whatsoever in sport and when it appears on TV we are really peeved off and go and do something else.
There is so much of it,together with advertising and station promos that a lot of the more intelligent people hardly watch TV at all and prefer reading good books or getting on the computer.
As for the antisocial activities of footbrawl players….enough said.

  7. I agree with what most people say that is cruelty to children and animals, plus all the bad mannered things folks do using phone in cinema’s ,resturants and letting everyone know thet have a phoneby yelling my two major pets hates are when people have done wrong morally or criminal do gooders jump to there aid why not let them take responsibilty for their actions regardless if they are teens they should know right from wrong, my second is all those peole who say sports persons are hero’s no they are not they are doing something they enjoy and get good money they are not putting their life on the line, Police Fireman Military personal and other emergency services do they are the hero’s of the world not actors and overpaid sports people. So all you media writers and commentaters get it right they are not hero’s don’t put them on pedestals and maybe they will behave like normal people.

  8. Anything bad towards kids. I cant stand people who bash their kids. And another pet peeve is people who have no manners or patience. I cant stand rude people. I was in the checkout at my local coles yesterday and was having trouble putting my change away and the lady (if you would call her that) was tisking and sighing and carrying on because I was holding her up. It’t not my fault that I have bad hands at times and it takes longer to do simple things.
And one other is OLD people who treat kids like crap. Seriously, if a child is waiting in a checkout line, who gives the elderly right to push in front of them? One person did this to my son, so I just got my son to move in front of them. They turned and said, excuse me… So i turned and said your excused. you did push in front of my son… They looked at the ground and didnt say another word. Just because they are old, they do NOT own the world and cant do whatever they want when they want!!

  10. Poeple who pick their noses;
people who don’t wash their hands after visiting the toilet; people who cough or sneeze without covering their mouths (I am highly susceptible to coughs and colds because of this and constantly have to cover my mouth in public which makes me look antisocial but I have to to avoid catching stuff!)
and people who sneeze or cough just seconds before you are expected to shake the hand that was used to cover his cough/sneeze (yes, I do appreciate they did try to cover their mouths and not spread diseases, generally but what about me?)

My pet hate is the dear folk who find it necessary to sit in the fast lane at five to twenty k under the speed limit then accuse every one else stuck behind them, thanks to their inconsiderate attitude, of tail gateing. If your not doing the speed limit or somewhere near it, move to the left as your the one who’s acctually breaking the law. And its called bonnet surfing.

On a lesser note, but still unacceptable are bad manners, bad spelling and grammar and annoying speech habits such as saying “like” every second word. Actually I could save space as the above all apply to gen Y!

When people blame their failures on other people or just make up heaps of lame excuses

When someone says ‘Hey whats up’ comes back five minutes later and asks the same question. My life hasn’t changed that much in five minutes or asks ‘So how’s life’.

I also hate it when people get pissed off at people for small stuff because they have their own pet peeves. oh, and when people make assumptions about people. 65. I would definitely have to say it is people taking the time to reverse into a space in a carpark. This is presumably to make it easier on departure although when one ways the whole effort, surely any efficiency gained on exit is lost with the effort expended on the reverse entry. Not to mention the annoyance of anyone waiting for them to complete their precious reverse entry.
