Thanks for the memories Michael Jackson

My goodness, what a morning.

We’re all shocked to hear about the passing of Michael Jackson, the ultimate King of Pop. For many of us born in the 70′s and 80′s, a Michael Jackson album was the first music we ever bought and most of us have special memories of his multitude of songs.

His 1982 hit Thriller became a world wide smash. It yielded seven top-10 singles and sold at least 27 million records worldwide. The year later, the moonwalk was released while performing Billy Jean in New York and we all spent hours trying to perfect this unique style.

We posted a great question on the Yahoo!7 homepage asking you What are your best memories of him and his music? There are so many great responses (keep them coming!) but I wanted to share a few with you.

HIS MOONWALK. I still remember all my friends trying to do it.. we’d fall down laughing when our teacher tried to do it, looked like he was constipated.. No one came quite as close to the King of Pop.
- Sydney =)

Billie Jean, 1983. His red suit, white socks and black loafers. I still think this song is his finest musical moment.

My positive memory….he landed in Papua New Guinea in 1997 in search of fuel on while on his way to NZ from some place in Asia….I saw him from 20 mtrs away.. in less than 50 minutes more than 1000 fans gathered at the Jacksons Int Airport…

Running home around the corner from a friends place after dark at 8years old after just having watched his big sisters recording of the Thriller filmclip and freaking out, wondering if there were any grisly ghouls after me!

So, So, many of them, where to begin. Which one? Everytime I stepped on stage (now retired professional dancer 27yrs) in OZ or OS! Having the privilege to perform to this icons works, but alas, seeing MJ @ Parramatta Stadium in 1987. Source(s): Yahoo of course! Thanks for your coverage on MJ.

For me, almost every one of his songs remind me of something in my childhood.  Blame it on the Boogie will always take me back to teenage discos and those hilarious dance moves, Bad reminds me of dancing around the living room with my brothers and I’ll always remember the feeling of hope and inspiration the first time I heard Heal the World.

What will you always remember about Michael Jackson?

RIP Michael Jackson and thanks for the wonderful memories.

  1. I am saddened by the loss of one of the great entertainers of my life. I have followed his career from his childhood and mine to now, what a shame he never got to do his comeback, I’m sure it would have been spectacular. He was an innovator and a lot of pop stars use his dance moves. He was a truly great showman. I still remember how excited I was when I saw in 1987 in Parramatta stadium. I have all his albums and was very disappointed in the way the media represented him in the last 10-15 years. Michael Jackson, you were very special and will be terribly missed. I hope you will now be finally be allowed to be happy and rest in peace. Love to your children and our prayers too.

  8. Jacko’s been whackoed. The thing I remember most about this creep is the fact that he ruined the lives of so many young boys. Good riddance, I say!

  10. It is very sad bout Michael Jackson yes but let me remind you that ppl die everyday and although Michael was a music icon he was also just human ;iek the rest of us. It would be nice to see the public showing this much interest and tribute to Baby Grace or the poor starved girl here in Oz. Celebrities are no more “special” than any murdered child or wife her in oz or anywhere for that matter. And what about farrah Fawcett? After batting anal cancer for years she only gets a small mention in the news because apparently Michael Jackson’s death is more tragic and sad? where has humanity gone? it seems the more money a person makes or the more popular they are the more “important” and tragic their death is. Im disgusted. Baby grace or the murdered children and inoncents of the world deserve more ‘air time’ than rich popstars

  11. I for one didn’t care for the man nor his music, GMA this morning surprised me in saying “We better not forget the passing of another great person Farrah Fawcett, she to me and a lot of other people was a beautiful person and does deserve mention, more than she is receiving. There will be only one person who deserves to be called King and Jackson married his daughter

  15. He was an enigma and, although in later years he was shunned by the industry and society in general, it is clear that he really did cause more enjoyment than harm. After the dust settles and the jokes, the theories and innuendo are exhausted, what will be left? I’d like to think a legacy – the legacy of a beautiful mind that can live on and continue to inspire people in a world where inspiration is truly lacking.

We shouldn’t stop remembering him or playing his music after the dust settles we should continue on celebrating him. To his family and kids God will comfort you just believe.

  21. It is strange to us ordinary folk that many great artists have a death wish to self destruct. Elvis, Van Gough, Tchaikovsky just to name a few.

  22. Michael Jackson is an angel, and was an angel when he was sent from heaven to care for, protect, and support our children, our people, and our planet. He should be loved by all, whether it be for his music, his entertaining, unique way of life, or his unconditional love for Earth. I’ll be playing your music in my room for a while and will be devastated that our world has lost such an angelic being, MJ. May God bless your soul, and thak you so much for caring for all the children in the world, including me. We love you!

  24. It was in your upbringing,
    You became hurt and lost,
You lived your life out on a stage,
    Where people loved you most.

    When u were a star,
They wouldn’t accept you as you are,
    They vilified your name,
    They made u seem insane.

    Now that your’e gone,
    Your legacy lives on,
    And of course they’ll forget,
    What they all once said.

    For as never before,
    Now that you’re no more,
    The swooping vultures will appear,
To milk & milk & milk ur name and fame for sure.

  25. While the rest of the world is coming to terms with the sad news of MJ’s death, CHANNEL 9 aired a documentary on MJ last night in VERY bad taste. 2000 yrs ago, Christ asked for the first stone to be thrown by anyone who had not sinned – and I would like to put this one the CH 9. The brilliance is that MJ was human and achieved what none could dream of. One hopes that in death they will let his soul rest in peace.

  27. hey all u people calling him a paedophile get ur facts rite the law states innocent until proven guilty and all those kids couldnt make it stand in c ourt wake up it was a ploy from there parents to suck money out of him like everyone else did.i9f he was guilty they would have put him away years ago have faith in the justice system ,,,ajs

  28. I agree with you Annette….if he was guilty he would have been put away and what about those kids parents….is money more important to them than putting him in jail, what low life’s,if it was my kid being molested i would make sure he went to prison and no amount of money would fix it.I love michaels music and will miss him a lot.
He didn’t have a very good up bringing either and i feel sorry that he missed out on a childhood and that is why he was a kid at heart.Let michael rest in peace now and remember him for his music and talent….

  29. Michael was not the monster he was made out to be.
The monsters were those who took away the innocence of this Man-Child.
He was kind, soft, talented, full of charisma and he was trusting to the point that he let himself be mistreated.
I’m glad I never doubted his innocence.
    RIP my friend.
