Harry Potter vs. Twilight

Last week, the sixth “Harry Potter” film hit theatres. Anyone who read J.K. Rowling’s books knows how the story ends. However, that absence of suspense hasn’t stopped the overwhelming excitement. But Harry isn’t the undisputed king of teen lit anymore. Twilight is big and only getting bigger. Over the past several weeks, I’ve noticed a surge in questions on “Harry Potter” vs. “Twilight.”

By my count, there are hundreds (if not thousands) of questions asking which franchise is “better.” Of course, there is no right answer, but that hasn’t stopped many in the Yahoo!7 Answers community from giving passionate responses.

Alex, a Top Contributor to Yahoo!7 Answers writes that Twilight is the “worst book” he or she has ever read and compares the novel’s hunky vampire Edward to a “creepy stalker.” Ouch. Additionally, Alex argues that the characters in Harry Potter have a backstory and a unique personality in contrast to the stars of Twilight, who are “one dimensional.”

Of course, not everyone agrees with Alex’s assessment. For example, Yahoo!7 Answers member “Doctor Orange!” feels that Twilight is “more realistic” (presumably, that’s a good thing). Another responder writes that while it may be true that many readers enjoy the Twilight books because Edward is an amazingly handsome fella, the real reason for Twilight’s popularity has to do with the way the author lets readers into the mind of the narrator, a conflicted young woman.

Most literature experts, including Stephen King, argue that J.K. Rowling is far and away the superior writer. What do you guys think? Do you prefer one franchise to the other? Or is the whole debate like comparing apples and bowling balls (i.e, totally pointless)? Leave a comment below.

  2. I have to say J.K. Rowling is by far the better writer she transports you to another world and she is also able to write a wicked action scene unlike Stephenie Meyer. I really think you can’t compare them they are on two totally different levels. J.K. Rowling is by far the much superior writer. In my opinion Harry Potter is far, far better then Twlight ( and i am a twilight fan as well) and anyone who chooses Twilight hasn’t read all the Harry Potter books.

Although i still don’t believe you can fully compare them, there very different from each other.

  3. Enjoyed both, but found Harry Potter superior, stayed up to the wee hours reading it whereas I was happy to put the twilight series down occasionally. The twists in the Harry Potter stories were much more clever and the characters were much more developed.

  4. You have got to be kidding!!! You cannot even contemplate on comparing a well written and crafted story like Harry Potter against poorly written drivel like Twighlight which only appeals to teenage girls. Give me a break please

  5. The vamp thing has already been done (J Whedon) with buffy still being one of the best written series of that genre out there.. (far superior to twilight)

2 brilliant things to come out of England – HP books/movies & HP sauce..

There is no comparison HP wins hands down (or is that wands down)

  6. I think on the whole aspect, Harry Potter comes out on top because it caters for a much larger viewing audience.Young kids through to older people have enjoyed seeing these movies. I am one of them. Twilight, on the other hand is probably more suited to ages 16 onwards.

  9. Ms Rowling is definitely the better author. Her books are absolutely magical and enchanting. You can’t help but fall in love with Harry, Ron and Hermione. I am also a Twilight fan and have read all 4 books several times. Ms Meyer’s style is simpler and at times very basic, but her books still manage to sweep you off into the wonderful and mysterious world of the Meyer Vampires. I’m a mom of 3 teenagers and Stephenie’s books brought me back to my teenage years…now that’s cool! I love both authors!

  14. When you read Harry Potter from start to finish, and then Twilight from start to finish, you begin to recognise who is the better writer.

Rowling had obviously thought out her story from the beginning to the end. She knew what would happen in each book, and made sure that the “main” story would continue through each book’s individual “adventure”.

But Meyer does not even think about how things are going to pan out. When you read it, you can tell that she is making stuff up as she goes along. This is especially evident in “Breaking Dawn” where she completely loses the plot. Everyone says that her books are more realistic. Well maybe the first few, but then when you introduce morphing wolf boys and amazonian vampires with special powers you start to loose that “realism”. When i read breaking dawn and saw the little “Renesme” with her special powers, i thought i was going back to preschool play days, where everyone would say “what power do you have”, it just became so immature.

I think Twilight fans are more interested with the whole, edward bella, watch buffy.

  18. No competition – Harry Potter is far superior. I admit I’ve only read the first Twilight novel, but found it very slow and dull. No subplots, just the basic story, whereas HP has multiple other plots alongside the main story (i.e. Hermione’s SPEW campaign, “Weasley is our King” etc). I also note the arguements here for HP are much more intelligent than the one word “Twilight” responses.

  19. ahhhhh…lets see now. HARRY of course! Twilight is a load of rubbish. Stephenie Meyer couldn’t write her way out of a paper bag. Whoever edits those books, deserves all the royalties, as they seem to have made them at least readable for some. I found reading them quite painful and I wanted it to end. Harry on the other hand, pure genius!

  20. I am a massive fan of both but I think HP is more developed than twilight, twilight has only just began where hp has been out for ages. HP is has a more complicated plot and is more interesting to read and watch. Twilight is just a beautiful romance which i think after you read or watch it you feel happy which is a change from hp’s detailed story. they are both fantastic books and movie, though you can’t really rate them because they are in different leagues and genres.

  22. I would have to say Harry Potter due to the fact how its written is far better. The Twighlight series has a good story line (though I find it not as in depth as HP and far more predictable) though its execution is poor and lacks description in most parts, though the last in the series was a great impovement.

The only downfall I beleive the HP series had was the need to incorporate the last section of the 7th book that projects into the future. Although one again JK Rowling has explained her thoughts of why she thinks it ties together the series and completes the “orphan cycle”. She has some in depth characters as opposed to the Twighlight characters.

Congratulations to both for creating such wonderful books though.

Oh, and I would also like to add my amusement over the fact that those commenting that Twighlight is the better series have not added any comments supporting it rather opting instead for “Twighlight is better” or “Twighlight”. So thankyou for your ‘insight’ and further proving that those who enjoy HP on a greater scale do so as it is far superior in terms of its descriptive level.

  23. I enjoyed reading both books. But to compare them is impossible. Harry Potter is definetely better!
I find that there is equal amounts of conflict in both novels. But JK Rowling perfects the Potter series and ends it with twists and turns; a much better ending than Twilight.

  27. Harry Potter is the best series ever after Lord of the Rings. I always enjoyed the school setting of magic and how 3 bright young teens fight the age-old battle between dark and light for light and goodness to prevail. Never been a fan of twilight I cant imagine in any circumstances being in love with a vampire is possible let alone lasting. Full of bullcrap. Harry Potter is a much more realistic fantasy where magic rules and where magic rules it is always fun and exciting. Imagine riding a dragon or hippograff compared to climbing trees and looking over treetops with a vampire monkeys do that too by the way.
Harry Potter all the way. Your amazing Rowling thank you for your wonderful contribution to the literary world.

  30. I’m sorry, “Doctor Orange”, but what in the name of god is realistic about Twilight? These are VAMPIRES (i.e. non-existent). Not to diss Twilight, but I severely disagree with your comment about the realism of it.
J.K. Rowling is an absolute genius and there is no two ways about it. I am constantly questioning when I read Harry Potter: “Now why didn’t I think of that?”. She has an amazing imagination; far broader than Stephenie Meyer. The Harry Potter series is in ANOTHER LEAGUE from Twilight.

  32. Definitely HP!

    Why??
Twilight is the latest rage in books and i am still failing to see the spectacular appeal of the book quite frankly the characters are not developed i.e. one dimensional, the writing is dreary and has failed to keep my attention leaving me to force my way through the book in attempt to find some entertainment failing to do that i gave up and haven’t read further. Stephanie Meyer has written this book based on a dream and quite frankly it was rather boring.

JK Rowling however has written the books and has done a fine job her characters are thought out and the book was planned from start to finish allowing for suspense. Her writing is superior and the story is brilliant and has never bored me each time i read it, it gets better and better. She has also got more characters and has definitely put thought into them. I would also like to congratulate her on the game of Quidditch – it was amazing!!!!!!!!!!

    NOTHING WILL EVER BEAT HP

  34. I have read both series to the very end and I have to say that Harry Potter is much better than twilight in both books and movies. This is because Stephenie Meyer is not a very strong writer and it is quite apparent in the language she uses. It is rather simplistic and not really thought through. While J.K. Rowling thought out her basic storyline for all the books before she even started writing out The Philosphers Stone and it was not mere coincidence on how the story fitted together. Also Harry Potter has more depth and a much better storyline in my opinion and it also has sub- plots with the main plot always being Voldemort being up to something while the Twilight series just have one plot which gets a bit boring before you get anywhere near the end. I am a fan of both books however i did not really like the fith Harry Potter book or New Moon.

The Twilight books and movie(s) are far better than Harry Potter. Harry Potter is just about a boy who knows magic and goes to a magical school. Nothing exciting. Blah. So once again Twilight comes out on top.

  40. Harry Potter is better. JK Rowling is simply a far better writer and capable of creating a interesting and original story and cast of characters. Stephenie Meyer just created another cliche and simplistic love story with boring characters. 99% of people who think twilight is better are part of the teen girl armies that are so desperately in love with edward they cant see how much twilight sucks. Not exactly an unbaiased opinion. Though the whole potter vs twilight war is pointless overall.

  41. Both Harry Potter and Twilight is clearly Fiction Novel revolving around magic and thus, it should not be considered whether it is realistic or not. Magic of course in the real world does not exist and thus it called fiction for a reason. Imagination too is a very good and important tool in creating a good fiction novel. I found Harry Potter as much a better entertainment both in the form of books and movies. It has better writing style that can actually bring people to imagine and at the same time enjoy what we are reading. Twilight is a good book but for me it is not a must-read. It is a good book that you can read to pass the time. Harry Potter, however, made me unable to stop reading. The flow of the story is really good. It also has a more exciting story. Twilight on the other hand has nearly no climax in the story at all, there is nearly no excitement that I can get from the story.

IT DOESNT!! i went to watch twilight with 7 guys and 3 girls, and some of the guys liked it more than the girls. no they werent gay. and my mum also loved the movie. there is no proof in saying twilight was only for teenage girls because believe me it appeals to alot more people than just us. as for harry potter, well that is something gthat pretty much everyone can get into.

  49. I am an avid reader and have been transformed on many numerous times into the world of wizardry by the Harry Potter books – the only books I have been able to read more than once.
I heard from many that the Twilight series were “un-put-downable” and as I love a good vampire story I eagerly started to read the first book … started … am about 1/4 of the way through … thats about it … I started and cannot go any further.
Disappointment reigns as I cannot find any enthusiasm to pick up the book and read further – whilst I am continually transported to a world I love with the Harry Potter series, books and movies.
I have spent hours arguing with people over who is good/evil … who will live/die etc and have loved finding out whether I was right or wrong as each new book was revealed. I enjoy my treks to book launches … Gold Class sessions when movies released … a group of likeminded friends alongside.
So, as far as I am concerned, Harry Potter rules!!

  50. Some person intimated that HP was only for people under 16 – I beg to differ. Have a look at the considered responses from the HP fans here and you will see how intelligent their comments are. The Twilight comments are quite obviously written by teenage girls. I’m in my 30s and will always be a HP fan because the books/films have substance – great characters and plots that readers can identify with. I can guarantee you young ‘uns won’t like Twilight so vociferously when you are older.

  53. ok i have to say that anybody why thinks that Twilight is better is deluded.
Stephanie Meyer’s writing is weak and can’t carry a plot very well. Twilight was hardly plot driven at all. Its only towards the very end that it started to have some consistency with it.
While J.K Rowling’s writing style is far more in-depth (though certainly not as much as other books i’ve read). And i like her characters a lot more. I mean a vampire who is perfect in every way and a mary-sue falling for each other just does not appeal to me at all.

And to whoever said Twilight is more realistic, we’re talking about Vampires here. How is that more realistic than wizards?
And J.K’s books is more imaginative. I mean hello she created a whole different world with Hogwarts and all. I find it much more interesting.
Meyer’s idea had merrit it just needed better execution.

  55. I’d definitely say the Harry Potter series cos J.K Rowling is able to write the narrative in the view of a third person so the reader’s opinion is quite balanced and unlike Twilight, it is written in Bella’s point of view mostly so you tend to agree with her. I also think as much as imaginations go, J.K Rowling definitely has more of a complex imagination and the storyline she created was by far more interesting than the simple plot of Twilight.

I was a fan of the Twilight Saga for about 2 months.
I believe that it is easy to become obsessed with Twilight, because of the beautiful love story (and vampires). However, the obsession fades quickly. However, HP has captured my attention for six years, and whenever it or a reference to it is made, I am instantly attuned to the conversation. So, Harry Potter for me, thanks

The other is a story about wizards and good and evil fighting, etc, etc. I’ve seriously read all the twilight books several times, and seen the movie i’d say about 6 times. (dvd) I’ve also read each harry potter book more then once and seen all the movies many times. apart from number 6 which i have just seen once so far! adventures which transport the reader or viewer into
a different world, one of great imagination & depth. They will be remembered for years to come through
the generations & will be regarded as classics when
we are all dead & gone.
Twilight, on the other hand, comparitively, is not in
the same league by any stretch of the imagination.

  60. There is no competition. J.K Rowling has crafted the story of Harry Potter perfectly over a 17 year period. Stephanie Meyer has simply taken the over used idea of a human/vampire relationship (Dracula? Trueblood?) and infused it with teenage angst and sexual desire, in order for it to appeal to the mindless teenagers of my own generation, who really dont read much at all, but have created some kind of cult following because they all want to believe their own ‘Edward’ is out there.

There is no doubt that J.K Rowling is a far better and more original writer who has created a modern day classic with real emotions and issues, with a history and a universe comparable to the likes of middle earth, whilst Meyer has constructed a simple and immature saga based around a young girls obessesion and absolute dependence on her boyfriend (really the msg we want to send to teenage girls). The fourth book in the saga, ‘Breaking Dawn’, further demonstrates her lack of understanding of her own characters and her arrogance in thinking whatever she writes will be loves. She breaks her own ‘vampire rules’ and ends the saga in a ridiculous, unrealistic anticlimax, leaving many dissapointed and confused at how a book like this was ever published.

Harry Potter will remain for years to come as the series that opened up the world of books to millions of adults and children, uniting people all over the world in their love for her real, flawed, heroic characters and their battle against evil, their fears of death and their troubles in love, the same issues we face everyday.

  68. Really I think that the competition is clearly a state of opinion. Harry Potter is purely about the one centered protagonist, where as Twilight is set completely around the strong love two completely different beings have for each other. I think people are drawn to twilight not because Robert Pattingson is attratcive, but because they can step out of their troublesome relations ships happening in reality and step into a world where your whole life is totally set on the one person you love. People want to read about love that is not destined for each other, it gives them hope. For those who say that twilight is solely read by those of teenage girls, I think young girls are drawn to it for they wish that in their own lives they would have their own Edward Cullen to rely on and know that they will always be safe. I doubt that anyone out there have ever had the deep relationship Edward and Bella have for each other, one that is so strong even though it is not physical.

I think that people who dislike Twilight are the type of people who do not think about the extent of relationships and frankly can not step inside someone else’s shoes and themselves fall in love with a ficitonal character, a ware wolf or vampire.

I have read both Harry Potter and Twilight and no matter how “superior” J.K. Rowling’s writing may be, it is no match for the depth and meaning to what the characters put themselves through in the name of love.

  69. Harry Potter is far better. A pity the director stuffed up the latest movie “Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince”. I can’t believe that J.K. Rolling gave her okay. I felt like English drama had reached a new low becoming another Holliwood/Bolliwood version. The romances were shallow, not like in the book. I must have missed the part in the book where the Weasley’s house was burnt up. What happened to Serious Black’s place or the Dersleys? Where are the house elfs? The inferi looked too computer animated. They didn’t develop the character of the Half Blood Prince from the potions book either. I also felt the movie had been shorter than the others. On the whole I will probably watch the next movie on DVD. I fell angry that I wasted my money seeing it at the movies. Get the previous directer back in at least he did a good job.

  72. Twilight is by far the better if the two!! There is no comparision. Twilight appeals to people of all ages, where Harry and his friends is more for kids. While Harry is a fantastic, he didnt keep me all night…..Edward did. The Twilight movie on the other hand was a let down. There was no way the cast could ever live up to the way they were described in the books. Stephanies discriptive style had me captivated to the very end. I find myself wanting more. Books please, no more movies.
Whatever you choose to be your favourite…its nice to get lost in a make believe world. At least for a liitle while anyway.

  73. Why do people bag Stephenie Meyer? Simple? Is her book that worthless? Do you really think she has lost her plot in Breaking Dawn? Why? Have you asked her? How can a human judge someone just like that? You are free to say which book you like better, and for me this is Harry Potter, but what is the point of judging the author? What right do you have? Are you any better than either two authors? JK Rowling thought about the whole series in one train ride. I find that ingenius. Stephenie Meyer was able to bring back the imagination and fantasy that all people lose as you grow older. Let’s see if anyone can try better than that.

This question can be debated over and over again but I believe there is no point. Some people really believe in one book so much they throw away the other that to other people are both superior. Get off you high horse, for no matter how good JK Rowling is, Stephenie Meyer has a right to be known as a successful author as well.
Both authors are clever. You can’t judge them. They judge themselves on the books they write. Go Harry Potter. Go Stephenie Meyer.
    That is what I say.

  76. I haven’t read any of the Harry Potter books (exept for little bits) and I DON’T WANT TO!!!!! I have seen 3rd and 4th movies and I didn’t like them. The only reson I watched them is because I couldn’t change the channel because the remote wasn’t working. I find Harry Potter a boring and time wasting series that isn’t realistic at all. I LOVE Twilight and have read all the books, seen the movie, own three of the books (New Moon wasn’t in the shop) and the special features dvd. Twilight is a much more realistic series as it is placed in a placed that actually exists. Harry Potter is placed in some La La Land that doesn’t exist and never will. I don’t think that it is pointless comparing them because they are both fantasy books and movies, and they are both never going to be real. I think that Twilight is better by far. J K Rowling is making a heap of money and probably still will even when she dies. Stephanie Meyer puts in the right amount of fantasy that makes the series good, while J K Rowling made her series a bunch of nonsense. Twilight is a heaps better series and it always will be. The movie is great too, and I don’t think it is because of Robert Pattinson, like heaps of other people. GO TWILIGHT!!!!!

  77. i think there isn’t much point in comparing the two series, for many reasons. One, they are mainly focused on different audiences, harry potter has more male fans while twilight is support by crazy female fans. although, their focus target is both teenagers. Another is, Harry Potter is close to it’s flame of glory while twilight has just started the spark of the flame. Many people would be tried of harry potter since it’s been so popular in the last few year, twilight is just something new to to look at, but it’ll depend on it’s own luck.

personally, i’m a twilight fan. i know it’s cheesy and over romantic. but it’s something teenagers, especially girls could easily relate to. Harry Potter, i’ve always thought it was a guys thing and i have no interest(apart from the movies) and haven’t touch at all.

  78. Woo I’m alex.

    and I’m a she.

Ok Twilight is, I can honestly say the worst book I have ever read
    Bella: I love you Edward
Edward: I love you too you are so beautiful
Bella: No YOU are so beautiful. I love you. You’re all sparkly
Edward: You are the most perfect creature ever
1000 pages and 3 books later
    Bella: I love you Edward
Edward: I love you you are so beautiful
OMFG it’s just them proliferating their love for each other for 1000+ pages. And right at the end Smeyer is like JESUS CHRIST I NEED PLOT and throws some crap in.

Harry Potter on the other hand is a book which is complex and has richness and depth. The main difference between the two books is audience. Harry Potter caters to such a large audience. Children, teens and adults from all over the world love Harry Potter. And the same can be said about Twilight too I guess but you’ve got to admit the age-fan distribution is much more evenly spread with Harry Potter than it is with Twilight. Twilight fans are 98% grouped in the 13-16 age group. And the majority of those are female. A LOT of them have never read anything other than Twilight and scoff at picking up something else, because zomg it doesn’t have Edward in it.

Harry Potter on the other hand has fans of all walks of life. Female, male, young and old. Obviously the majority of fans are teenagers, most in their late teens now as we’re the one’s that have grown up with Harry Potter. But Harry Potter has such a large adult audience that they’ve developed “adult editions”. There are fan conventions held numerous times every year which are attended by thousands of people. For many of these conventions you have to be eighteen. I think that’s fantastic. I gave my parents Harry Potter to read. They liked it. My sister gave them twilight to read. Mum thought it was a joke.

The actual writing of Twilight is, in every way, inferior to that of Harry Potter. Smeyer writes like she’s swallowed a thesaurus and apparently doesn’t know the meaning of Purple Prose. She repeats the same words and phrases over and over again. It seemed the word “chagrin” was written twice every page. Her books have more plot holes and inconsistencies than swiss cheese. . I cannot understand how Edward can have sperm still living in his body, one hundred years after he died? And that sperm didn’t only survive but the chromosomes in it changed? It’s ridiculous. She gets around her problems by saying her novels are “fantasy” therefore normal rules don’t apply. But then she rapes general fantasy rules and claims she can do this because her vampires are based more on science… Which one is it? The books have little to no plot. Seriously I’m fairly sure the entire series is just Edward and Bella making out for 1000 pages with a New Moon size gap where Bella pines.

Harry Potter on the other hand is masterfully written. The plot is interwined over seven books, with events in the first book foreshadowing events in the last. You seldom find details that are redundant and the story itself is very suspenseful. The books are full of captivating subplots which really gives Harry Potter the richness that defines it. Jo has obviously put some research into her books, there’s deep roots in mythology which are relevant and add depth. No matter how many times I reread I always pick up something new and, in the end, everything ties together.

The characters in Twilight are an embarrassment. Edward is disgusting. He is a stalker. He follows Bella, won’t let her see her friends, won’t let her drive, beats her up when they’re having sex, gives her a c-section with his teeth. Yeah I’d totally swoon if that happened to me. Bella is a terrible role model to young girls. She falls apart when her boyfriend leaves her and only pulls herself back together when she finds another guy to replace him. She has no personal goals or wishes other than to be with Edward forever. She is willing to throw away her future, her education, everything with little regard for the consequences not only to herself but to everyone around her. Every character is a mary-sue. Bella is supposed to be an average girl yet her only flaw is that she’s clumsy, which everyone finds endearing so it’s not really a flaw at all.

Harry Potter on the other hand, has rich characters who have background, are unique and have REAL flaws. Choose any character and you can pull faults and positive traits from their personalities. Harry is an example that no matter what your upbringing, an no matter how much badness there is in the world, love ultimately will persevere. Hermione is a fantastic role model. She is strong minded and intelligent. When Ron rejects her she doesn’t collapse into a heap, she remains strong gets over it. She stands up for what she believes in but is still a real character. She is bossy, single minded and yes, she is a know-it-all. But that’s what adds depth to her character and makes her so fantastic.

The only reason Twilight is popular is because it’s adored by kids who don’t have the maturity to realise how fake it is and how poorly it’s written. As Stephen King, best selling author for decades said:
“The real difference is that Jo Rowling is a terrific writer and Stephenie Meyer can’t write worth a darn,” he said. “She’s not very good.”

  81. Harry Potter is definately the better written series. One of the things that appealed to me most with the Harry Potter series was that as the characters got older so the language developed. I was surprised, as an adult, that I needed to look up words; so I suppose many teens would have too.

I am just starting the Twilight series and find it too easy to read. I completed New Moon in 4 hours and didn’t feel challenged by the text.

Looking forward to the next well written series by any author to challenge me.

  82. I love both series almost equally, although given the choice, Harry Potter would win.

I have grown up with the boy wizard. The first book came out when I was ten, so I felt how he was feeling, and could relate to him in terms of him being somwhat of an outcast. As he grew up, so did I, and so did J.K’s writing style.

Twilight has an “alright” plot. I wouldn’t call it amazing, but I also wouldn’t call it pathetic. The only thing that gets me is that her characters are very OTT and stereotypical, even if her style of vamps are not – Who has ever heard of a vampire falling in love with a human [Buffy/Angel, Buffy/Spike and other books/tv shows] and the vampire thirsting for her blood?
Stephenie Meyer’s writing style is terrible. She writes like an eighteen year old with no previous experience, and didn’t even use an editor.

This being said, I still love some of the characters from Twilight [Jasper, Alice, Carlisle, Jacob and Leah], and enjoy their on-screen counter-parts, but Harry Potter will forever be my favourite.

And I agree with Anna’s earlier post: Rob Pattinson is so ugly he makes us want to hurl. He was alright as Diggory, but no Edward Cullen.

  83. harry potter is by far the superior book and movie in comparison to twilight.

the twilight books were a quite good read, and the movie is good to watch once or twice but the harry potter books seem to get stronger, more exciting and all around better every time you start a new one.

the harry potter movies i can watch over and over and honestly never get sick of them, twilight on the other hand was an interesting movie the first time but then i got over it.

Harry can never disappoint you “i just feel like Hagrids is the place to be… you know what i mean?”

Edward is just some psycho killer “we’ve got to rip him apart and burn the pieces”

also the twilight characters completely re-create what a ‘vampire’ traditionally is…

traditionally a vampire can not go in the sunlight, they sleep in coffins, are repelled by garlic and crosses, they wear cloaks and live in castles

in twilight they say vampires are super fast, strong, don’t sleep at all and when they go in the sunlight their skin shimmers like diamonds (WTF) people say twilight is more realistic, but it is too realistic by my opinion they have completely drifted away from the characteristics of a vampire which is a make believe creature which is not supposed to be realistic!!

harry potter, you never see whats coming. the books are a thrilling read and are a brilliant escape from reality and the movies make a excellent watch that i personally can re-watch multiple times

the new harry potter movie i have seen twice in three days and it was just as good the second time.

the movies are also good because of the fantastic actors Danial, Emma (pretty as), Rupert and soo many more not forgetting my favorite who plays Luna Lovegood a source of comical relief.

    HARRY POTTER RULES
    TWILIGHT SUCKS (in comparison)

NEW MOON IS THE WORST OF ALL (i hate Jacob)

if some of you haven’t seen the new harry potter you definitely should see it straight away :)

I watched twilight with my two sons and they both thought it was pathetic, at one stage I was going to turn it off but decided to sit through it for the simple fact that so many people liked the film. I then realized that the only people who liked the film were teenage girls who are the same demographic record companies market music to which made sense to me, twilight was a badly written, predictable, shallow and without substance just like 99% of music in the top 100. a true piece of genius marketing that many feel for.
Vampire’s burn in the sun kiddies they dont they

harry potter on the other hand is well crafted and entertaining. characters have a great deal more depth. the stories don’t have a love story as there singular basis which for any one older then 12 is a requirement.

  93. I loved Harry Potter, it’s a brilliant, well-written fantasy. I also liked the Twilight series, it was a very sweet story, but it’s just not in the same class as Harry. And lets face it, the relationship between Edward and Bella was unhealthy. Emotional blackmail “You can’t ever leave me” and “if you don’t turn me, Alice will” (not the exact words but near enough). Edward was going to have himself killed when he thought Bella had jumped off the cliff. He pretty much banned her from seeing Jacob when he came back. Bella was leading Jacob on.
In the real world, people would question this relationship.

  94. I really think harry potter is a far better series than twilight. The Harry Potter books can appeal to almost anyone and provide and excellent read because all of the twists are unpredictable and very exciting and it makes u never want to put the book down. With twilight though, i lost my interst in the books after the first two because the twists were not as good and also because u can almost predict whats going to happen but in Harry Potter it takes u by surprise and excites u more. So therefore harry potter is a waty better series than twilight and the movies are also better than the twilight movie. :D

I acknowledge that Meyers has her place in tween publications, but it is an insult to Rowling that Meyers is even considered to be in the same playing field. I have read both and I would have enjoyed Twilight more if I was 10 years younger and was a confused, lovestruck girl who believed obsession equates to love. Harry Potter – now anyone, of any age, can enjoy and get something out Rowlings work (there are actually morals behind these stories!). To those who say that Twilight is “more realistic”; I say – in what reality? – both are flights of fantasy!

  103. I agree that there will always be some form of debate as Twilight appeals to the people who are less likely to sit down and read a book, but does not hold any where nere the same level as HP books. Twilight is in some aspect conserderd “cool” where as to some crowds who are sorely mistaken HP is “lame”. I have read Twilight and yes i agree that they are good books they have nothing on Harry Potter, the are extreamly diffrent and you can almost not compare them due to Twilights lack of sub plots and lack of character depth. Also i injoyed Twilight untill Braking Dawn, but that book just runined it for me, she changed the plot line, distroyed barriers she had made regarding the vampires, and to me it was just a whole lot of crap.
and just to point one thing out, i think that the because there is the majority of people suporting Harry Potter, and that there responces are much more littert, Harry potter wins.
oh and i agree with Anna, most people just love Twilight due to Edward, and now Rob Patinson! ewww……..

  107. Harry Potter is most definitely the better book.

The Twilight Saga is what? A story about “shiny vampires” and a stupid teenaged girl who can’t let go of him. Excuse me? How is Harry Potter unrealistic? JK Rowling infuses real-life situations with a fantasy world of magic perfectly well.
Twilight is unrealistic. Stephenie’s Meyer’s “vampires” are just taking vampires too far. Vampires have sharp teeth and they drink blood, but “shiny skin” in the sun? Hell no. And the whole “vegetarian vampire” sounds like something someone thought up as a last resort because they couldn’t think of anything else. Ah yes, Twilight is the worst book ever.
Now Harry Potter. They are my all-time favourite books, and next to nothing compares with them (and certainly not Twilight).
I always wondered how come everything that happens in Harry Potter fits together perfectly. Why did “I am Lord Voldemort” spell out “Tom Marvolo Riddle”? How come? Then I realized that she must have had her entire storyline mapped out before she started writing “The Philosophers’ Stone”. I thought it was so clever of her to be able to slide everything into place with her smooth, descriptive language that paints a picture in your mind when you’re reading (you don’t even ahve to watch the movie to imagine all that happens in your head).
She writes in such a way that the reader is drawn into the world she created of Witches, Wizards and Muggles.
When I read the sixth book, I had tears in my eyes as I read the chapter when Dumbledore dies. It seemed to feel quite real (*ahem* who said it was unrealistic?) and impossibly sad and horrible that Snape could kill the Headmaster just like that. I really felt it.
Then the seventh book when all is explained to Harry (as well as us) and JK Rowling reveals all and once again, the puzzle pieces snap into place and we suddenly understand everything. And even all of us who hated Snape see it in Dumbledore’s way and as well as being Harry’s “bravest man”, in a way, he becomes ours too. What we used to see as Snape being impossibly strict especially to Harry, we now know was well-intended protection.
It is truly a wonderful wonderful world that JK Rowling has created with her marvelous imagination, and Harry Potter will not be forgotten for years and years to come..
Unlike Twilight. For the first few months of the saga coming out, there was a huge craze among teenagers mostly (and I myself proudly announce that I was never part of the obsession) and everywhere you went in the street, you’d see about five million Twilight’s and New Moon’s and Eclipse’s and Breaking Dawn’s sticking out of bags, and in people’s hands – it really infuriated me.
Probably now, about 3/4 of the people who were formerly caught in the obsession ahve seen sense and now dislike or have neutral feelings about it.
Twilight is not loved by book-lovers, it’s loved by people who love Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner and numerous other “hot” guys who star the movie/s.
Yes, Robert Pattinson was in the Harry Potter movies too, but he didn’t play the sort of character he plays as Edward Cullen. He was gallant and modest (pretty much).
Harry Potter is beautiful and clever and simply magical (no pun intended). Twilight is dull and holds a reader’s interest for about five seconds.

There is no argument here. Harry Potter is superior by about a zillion miles. Twilight is an embarrassment to literature and all concerned with it.

I hope that Breaking Dawn isn’t the end to the twilight sequel – Stephanie Meyer does have quite a lot of material to work with if she was to continue this magical world she ingeniously created – I just hope she doesn’t put an end to it.

  110. Why is there even a comparison? It’s Harry Potter. Just read the first chapter of the first book of each series.

J.K. Rowling creates a moody and mysterious atmosphere for Privet Drive. The characters are enigmatic and there is a sense of magic in the air.

Meyers starts off with a cheesy flashback narrative device. Minimal description.

We are talking about literary quality here!

  111. harry potter IS obviously way far better and is in a superior level unlike twilight by reading it (twilight) sounds as if the author just did it on the moment by that i meant by whatever came to mind first (twilight i would call it book for beginners in reading since people who dont like to read books ended up reading it and start it to call it “favorite”)and in the harry potter the author planned it she used creativity in the books and in the movies showed alot of unbelivable facinating effects and twilight was just kinda boring either way in my opinion there are way far better vampire books than twilight like vampire diaries or vampire academy or blue bloods those should be made into movies my opinion also its true many that many girls like twilight but i (a girl) doesnt like twilight and prefers harry potter:)

  112. Harry Potter is much better, and is the most popular considering it has the most interesting storyline and it attracts people of every age and gender. Twilight only attracts children and young teens, and some adults.

I haven’t met anyone who doesn’t like Harry Potter. Nearly everyone I meet hates Twilight. Except for the lil kids.

  113. Surely this can’t even be in question!
HP is much, much, much better then twilight.
I honestly don’t see what the fuss about twilight is. I’m sick of hearing about it, honestly. I’m in a group of 11 other girls, all of whom are, thankfully, getting over their obsession with twilight.
The IDEA of twilight is totally stupid, thats not even in question, and then theres the FACT then J.K. Rowling is a much much much better writer than Stephanie Meyer.
As for the movies, Robert Pattison is the ugliest thing i have ever seen in my life and Kristen Stewert is high up on that list aswell.
The whole “Harry Potter vs. Twilight” argument is the stupidest argument i have ever heard, as the answer is quite clear already.
Oh and, to all those idiot teenage girls out there, who are obsessed with Robert/Edward and the whole twilight series, get a life, honestly. There are bigger things in this world than that, and if you haven’t realised that, grow up. Seriously.

  114. You know what I think?

How can you be a serious fan of Twilight if you can’t even spell the author’s name properly. Probably over half of the “twi-tards” who’ve commented above have spelt Stephenie Meyer’s name as “Stephanie Meyer”. Evidently, they are not true supporters (and seriously, why would anyone even want to be a fan of such shit).

There is not one HP fan who has not read numerous HP books twice and seen the movies, and I can guarantee that not one HP fan would be able to spell JK Rowling’s name wrong, given having seen it so many times each time they reread the books.

And over the subject of which is better, I don’t seriously think there should be a single doubt that Harry Potter is (and by far).

I think Julie’s comment above sums it all up for me. It’s exactly how I feel about it.

Gaylight (as I like to call it) is an embarrassment to literature, and I don’t understand why it has so much fans at all (actually I do; it’s because they are obsessed with Robert Pattinson and the whole Bella+Edward thing and Jalice (Jasper+Alice) which are supposed to be so cute. eww have some taste.

Robert Pattinson looks completely and utterly DISGUSTING as Edward. I mean, he’s eww anyway but at least in the Harry Potter movies, he didn’t play Cedric Diggory too badly.

I hate how Rob Pattinson (as Edward) talks with absolutely no expression and just drones on when he talks to people.

Anyway, Twilight sucks, and over half its fans are probably people who haven’t read it but have decided to love it because their friends love it or they’ve seen lovies posters and think that Robert Pattinson is “effing hot”.

    eww Twilight & Twitards.
    yay HP forever. (:

  118. To me, my own opinion, Twilgiht is much better. I read all the books before I saw Twilight the movie. And I loved the movie just as much as I did the books. I do not aprove of any of the unreasonable comments posted about Twilight, as everyone has their own opinion. It’s very stupid, that anyone could be so mean and disrespective to one thing. Everyone, obviously, has different taste in books and movie. Those who like the nerdy Harry Potter, like magic and things that will never ever happen. Those who like Twilight like vampires and things like the love bit, that in real life could happen. And in my opinion also ALICE CULLEN AND ASHLEY GREENE ROCK :D

  119. “I think that Twilight is much better, it is more realistic and interesting while Harry Potter is too imaginative and fake. Harry Potter is NOTHING against Twilight. The Twilight books and movie(s) are far better than Harry Potter. Harry Potter is just about a boy who knows magic and goes to a magical school. Nothing exciting. Blah. So once again Twilight comes out on top.”

Are you kidding me? Twilight is not realistic. What’s so realistic about vampires? Even if it was “realistic”, what’s so good about realism in FICTION books anyway? Harry Potter wins without a question; it’s so much more complicated with better characters and a better plot. Twilight is a very cliched story…there are so many other books with a human falling in love with a vampire…forbidden love…as I said, cliche. And the characters–seriosuly, Edward? Edward, even for being a vampire, MUST have a flaw. Bella…she doesn’t have a hobby, goal, dreams…anything besides Edward. HP’s characters are in-depth, have unique personalities, and have a destiny. What’s Edward & Bella’s destiny? Oh yeah, to be together…cliche!

So HP wins outright. =P There’s no way to argue when you’ve got a well-written story…it’s amazing how everything from the first novel to the last fits together like puzzle pieces (–you can even read between the lines foreshadowing the future!), but in Twilight, there are still missing pieces.

NOTHING EXCITING? Hello! He’s on an adventure to defeat his arch enemy Voldy with the help of his friends! What’s not exciting about that?! He goes to school to learn, for heavens’ sake! And in each year, he ends up between life-or-death. And for Twilight, it’s just like “oh, Bella’s the damsel-in-distrees, then Edward, of course, comes to save her… (sarcastically) who knew that would happen?” while in HP there are so many directions the plotline could go…in Twilight, you could totally predict the ending, but in HP, you have so many pros and cons! Is Snape really working for Voldemort? Where are the Horcruxes? Will Harry die or will he live happily ever after with Ginny?

I can understand “I love Twilight more than HP” but there’s no way “Twilight is better written than HP”…-.- HP is a thousand times better written than Twilight.

  122. I personally hate Twilight very much. It has no storyline whatsoever. All it is, page after page is:

Bella: I want to be with you, Eddy.. forever.
Edward: Hell no. It’s too dangerous!
    Bella: BUT I WANT TO!
Edward: I can’t let anything happen to you…

    10 pages later:

Bella: I want to be with you, Eddy.. forever.
    Edward: Sure, why not?
    *makes out*

    20 pages later:

Bella: I want to be with you, Eddy.. forever.
Edward: NO! THAT WILL NEVER EVER HAPPEN!

    Breaking Dawn:

    Bella: Let’s make babies.
Edward: HELL YES THAT WOULD BE AWESOME!

like wtf. Make up your mind, “eddy”.

and who’s calling HP unrealistic? Sure, magic is unrealistic that’s true, but HELLO? It’s not like vampires are so realistic or something..

One of the above comments said that HP is about “things that will never happen”. Are you saying that vampires are real?

We all know you worship Edward and dream about him every night, but hey don’t forget. What’s the point of doing all that? He sure doesn’t watch YOU in your sleep and if you searched the universe for him, no you WOULDN’T find him.

So forget about it. HP rules and that’s the truth, sadly enough for you.

  124. Edward Cullen is an embarrasssment to my name. I agree with the comment above. Seriously, Twilight should be called “The Rantings of Bella & Edward”:

    Bella: You’re beautiful, Eddy.
    Edward: You’re more beautiful, Bella.
Bella: You’re more beautiful-er than me.
Edward: You’re the most beautiful thing in the world.
    Bella: No you are.
    Edward: YOU ARE!
Bella: How am I beautiful? My skin doesn’t sparkle..
Edward: How am I beautiful? My hair doesn’t smell like nice shampoo.
Bella: You smell awesome to me!
    Edward: … I’m a freak; I can’t even sleep if I wanted to.
Bella: No, I’M a freak; I trip on nothing!
    Edward: I’M A FREAK!
    Bella: I’m a BIGGER freak!
    Edward: I’m a RETARD!
    Bella: NO I AM!

That’s basically what Twilight is all about, but in short. Seriously, I think Stephenie Meyer was trying to compete with HP for thickest book, but HELLO? Has she heard of “quality is better than quantity”? O__O Probably not.

All those people who think HP suck have not ever finished a HP book probably, and don’t tell me it’s because it was so boring you couldn’t bear it – I could say the very same about Twilight. You just didn’t want to finish it and realize how much HP rules (OVER Twilight).

And EWW. To those who think that Edward is “effing hot”, you’re actually talking about Robert Pattinson here. No-one know what Edward looks like except for Stephenie Meyer because “she saw him in a dream”. And seriously, Robert Pattinson is just disgusting.

It pisses me off when I hear people squealing “O.M.E!” as in “Oh My Edward”. Edward does not freaking exist, Twitards. He’s just a character from a little storybook, like any other only a lot lamer and a lot more disgusting and a lot more plain and dull and a lot EMPTIER.

“Real vampires sparkle”. And who are you to call anything real or unreal? You haven’t seen a vampire in your life and if you ever do, it’s not going to be anything like “Eddy” because Edward is a boy from Stephenie Meyer’s vain little dreams.

A tradtitional vampire does not “sparkle” and does not go and decide it will be special and turn “vegetarian”. And excuse me, a real vampire doesn’t go and love “average” girls and make out with them and make babies with them. He sucks the blood out of them and leaves them lifeless and forgotten on the floor of some long-deserted ruin.

And they don’t have such things as “powers”. Hello? This is not Superhero Playland or something. They’re supposed to vampires, Stephenie Meyer, remember? Not superheroes.

Twilight is just disgusting, along with all its characters and all its Twitards and posters and whatever.

  125. But it all depends on what a person prefers to read or watch. Both book series are amazing, and its kinda weird to get worked up about it. Rowling and Meyer are on different levels, write different ideas with different knowledge, language etc. I am a Twilight fan, and I like Harry Potter also.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but seriously…wth? Their are parts of Twilight that are realistic, and there are parts that aren’t. It’s writing for OTHER people’s interests and what they like to read. Harry Potter has parts that are realistic, and some that aren’t also. Again, if some one likes it or dislikes it, it all depends on their interests. It doesn’t make one author worse than the others. It’s just a book series. They are both worldwide best sellers, so who cares? They are making money and have millions of interested fans all over the world, isn’t that all that matters?

To me, they are both great and every story, book, movie WHATEVER has its flaw. Get over it. I gotta say, the Twilight movie was okay, but they should have stuck a bit more to the book. And a lot of people said that about the Harry Potter books, saying that there are details that were left out of the movies. So there. Both of them have their greats and their flaws.

  126. Reading the comments think it is fairly obvious that many think Rowling is a far better writer and I completely agree with this. She has such talent that she is able to transport the readers into a wonderfully crafted, magical world and i believe Meyer failed to do that in the Twilight series.

I have read all seven of the HP books and loved them all. As huge as the books were I always finished them in less than two days.

But with twilight, after reading the first few pages I grew sick of it. As it has been mentioned by others it is all about Edward changing his mind every two seconds. I honestly don’t think I would’ve missed anything of I’d only read the first and the last few pages of the book.

  128. In my opinion, Harry Potter is a more well-written series than Twilight.
When the Twilight obsession had just started to become, I was quite jubious from the start. I could just tell by the way people talked about it that I wasn’t going to like it. So I did read the books, all of them, all the way through. It really was a waste of time, but at least now I can say that I ahve read them and can make an informed decision.
Harry Potter had be captivated form the word, ‘go’. People who prefer the Twlight series over Potter may say that it was boring, that they couldn’t get through the first chapter. Harry Potter requires thought, and all the first few chapters are developing an in-depth plot. There’s a lot of explaining to do so that the reader will understand the past of the story, and remember it when reading about the present. You don’t need such an attention span with Twilight, because the plot is so brief and simple.

As for realism, have we noticed that these books are about wizards, witches, vampires and werewolves? How is that real in any sense? Both these series are works of fiction, though I must say I love JK Rowlings intigration of the magical world into the world of an average teenager, worrying about exams and falling in love. Meyer’s work of daytime drama romance is simply two characters in a pre-existing world. And still none of it is plausible for reality. People can’t trip over thin air, and people can’t sparkle.

I must say, the most recent instalment of the Potter films was a disappointment. But it was the fault of the director, and not of the original creator. But at least the previous films, especially Phoenix, were as true to the book as adaption allows, and they really are everything I imagined while reading. The Twilight film was a shambles, and it was far worse than the already abysmal book. The acting and the direction were, let’s face it, pretty shoddy. The dialogue was of the shame rotten quality as that of it’s literary counterpart. It was nothing more than a chick flick with supernatural themes.

To sum it up, I believe that Harry Potter prevails over Twilight. It is an intelligent series with firm roots in actual myth and legend, whereas Twilight seems as if it were written on the back of a napkin. The Harry Potter series is timeless, but eventually Twilight will be buried in the sand when the phase has passed.

Here endeth the long-winded rant. ^_^

To the point where I could not put the books down and read them front to back all four in a matter of days (I was extremely sleep deprived due to this) However when I started to read HP I was bored out of my brain….. yes the writing is great and the author is extremely talented but to me it was very boring indeed.
It all comes down to personal choice. For me it was Twilight but to a 14 year old boy of course HP would take the cake.

  132. I personally love HP and think that Twilight is horrible, but I agree that it’s only my opinion and no-one has to agree. However, to the people who are saying that HP “sucks” and that Twilight is “way better”, I can’t accept that. HP is much better written than Twilight and that not only comes from me and numerous other HP fans, but also from renowned writers, namely Stephen King, who said so plainly and clearly that Stephenie Meyer writes terribly.
People tell us that Meyer’s writing “captivates” them, etc. How? I read Twilight and it did not excite me as all. I could put it down easily and I did not think about it at all much after I had read it, unlike HP, where I would think through the plot and how wonderfully it appealed to me.
Twilight is NOT better written than HP.

  133. The twilight craze bugs me more than just about anything. The first book was ok I guess, but it went downhill from there, so by the end of the series I was ready to throw the book out the window. It is repetitive, badly written, the characters are annoying and the plot has so many holes in it. People only adore the series because of the “wonderful” Edward. On another note, I did enjoy the twilight movie.
Harry Potter, on the other hand, is just pure jenius. The end of each book always leaves you hungry for more, and I almost cried when I realised the series was over. The plot just fits together perfectly, all the loose ends are tied up at the end, and the characters are realistic, loveable people.
The Potter movies were nowhere near as good as the books, but all the same, I would much rather watch it than Twilight.

  134. I love both books. But my love goes to Twilight! I love being able to read from the view of Bella, it pulls you more into the book and you can see things exactly from her perspective. New Moon, for example, the readers basically felt the same as Bella. To do that, you have to be a good author! But J.K. Rowling is a great author too. But as I said before, my love goes to the beautifully written novel, Twilight. :)

Look at Harry potter and everything that J.K rowling has devised, its so much more in-depth than twilight. 138. In my opinion although they are both creative, I mean it’s cool that the authors thought all of that stuff up but Twilight…well…It’s a good book and all but the whole being old and going out with someone who is only 17 is a bit perverted. If you’re a twilight fan i don’t mean to offend you or anything. But the fact that he is an old man (Who cares if he looks young!) and he is going out with a young girl is just wrong. I mean Bella says it’s love…but would she still love him if he looked his age? Would she still love him if he was your average Joe? Chances are that she wouldn’t.

And Harry Potter…well it’s alright too. But I think the capes and the uniform is a tad over the top. Why not just wear normal uniforms? I think it’s awesome that they can do spells and potions and stuff…but it doesn’t mean that they can’t have a normal uniform…without the weird robe.

    Sorry. That’s just my opinion.

However i regret to announce that i was, for a time, deeply immersed in the twilight saga. Thankfully i saw sense and re-read the harry potter books. After this i realized that stephenie meyer’s
writing techniques were boring and undescriptive. merely flickers of the characters descriptions entered my head but with Harry potter it was like a whole film running in my thoughts.

  153. Harry Potter is a better book by far. There should be no comparison, for Harry Potter far superior, no question about it. Why? I’ll give just a few reasons.

    1. Harry Potter HAS A PLOT
    2. Twilight is a fad, will disappear in a few years. Harry Potter is a classic, will be remembered a hundred years from now
    3. Harry Potter HAS DEPTH
    4. Harry Potter is imaginative and creative
    5. Harry Potter is well thought out
    6. Harry Potter is for EVERYONE, not a bunch of shallow fanatic teenage girls
    7. The male characters of Harry Potter do not dominate the female characters
    8. The main character of Harry Potter is not a whiny pathetic worthless excuse for a protagonist who can do nothing but sit around and cry
    9. Twilight puts shame to vampires
    10. Harry Potter has history and thought
    11. Harry Potter has hidden details and clues hidden throughout the book
    12. It is almost impossible to get sick of Harry Potter
    13. The characters in Harry Potter aren’t either all good or all bad, they have both, its the choices that they make which count
    14. The Harry Potter characters can live without a boyfriend/girlfriend
    15. Harry Potter touches upon issues that we all can relate with
    16. Though Harry Potter is fantasy, it is far more realistic than Twilight in every way, shape and form
    17. The Harry Potter characters have flaws, and grow throughout the book. No changes in Bella at all
    18. Harry Potter is well written
    19. Harry Potter has GOOD values
    20. Harry Potter is not anti-feminist
    21. Harry Potter gets you to THINK
    22. Harry Potter is more than fluff, and isn’t something any 12 year old could write easily
    23. Cedric Diggory > Edward Cullen. This is true for character as well as acting
    24. Harry Potter > Twilight. End of story
    25. Harry Potter fills its readers with imagination, creativity, hope and inspiration, and more. Twilight spoon-feeds the readers teen “romance”
    26. “Romance” is in parenthesis because Bella and Edward’s relationship is NOT love. It is lust and obsession caused from the characters being so shallow and having no life
    27. Harry Potter is CLEVER, not just random “jokes” that make no one laugh (except the shallow “I LOVE EDWARDians”… ew)
    28. Look at the profits, people. Twilight is NOT more popular than Harry Potter, no matter what the screaming teens in your local middle school say
    29. Harry Potter is NOT COMPLETELY PREDICTABLE

I could go on forever. But I actually have to go somewhere now (because Harry Potter fans can love Harry Potter passionately but still HAVE a life). But these are just a few of the infinite reasons that Harry Potter is MUCH better than Twilight. The end.

  154. First I would like to be very frank with all that read this.
I have never actualy read any of the HP books. I tried but i was to imapatent to get into it, i guess. But that has not made me recpect J.K R any less. I did watch the movie. But that dose not give me the right to pass any judgment on any of the HP books.
I have read the twilight books and hated the movie.
And im sorry to sound so typical, but i loved the books.
Instead of of comparing and condeming the two writers. We should just charish the books them selves. Both books(HP and Twi.) have very deep meanings to the readers. Harry Potter was a brave humble boy who was indeed very powerful and uniqie in many was as a wizared and a boy. Yet very modest. This is some thing people look up to and possabley relate to. you know with the whole mis treatment and being an orphan and such. People relate to hardships easily. and its a thrill to see these characters rise up in the end or at least represent somthing good.
and the same goes for twi. people can relate to feeling inadaqate and avarage. like bella. personaly twi. was every thing that every one wants but cant have. for instance faithful love imortality strength a forever surounded by love…a family. For a lot of people these things dont exist (imortality Duh) so throgh these book people r able to have these things. To escape frome reality…i mean isnt that what books are about. So my respects to both J.K & Steph M. For providing these worlds for all to excperience.
Oh and leave Shephen King out of this, he is so above this.

    lol pardon spelling.

  156. HARRY POTTER IS MUCH BETTER. READ JULIE, ELLA & EDWARD’S COMMENTS TO KNOW HOW I FEEL; THEY’VE SIMPLY SAID IT ALL FOR ME (:

TWILIGHT SUCKS, DID I MENTION THAT?

  157. OMGAHH. What is this? HP? TWILIGHT?

WELL DUH HARRY POTTER WINS. THERE’S NO NEED FOR ALL THESE PEOPLE HAHAHA TWILIGHT LOST BEFORE IT STARTED. I’M NOT GONNA STAY STEPHENIE MEYER TRIED TO STEAL THE SPOTLIGHT OR ANYTHING, BUT SHE FAILED, EVEN IF SHE DID. HARRY POTTER’S ALWAYS GONNA BE ON TOP, LET THIS BE A MESSAGE TO ANY WANNABE AUTHORS WHO ARE HOPING TO COME OUT ON TOP WITH THEIR FIRST BOOK LIKE MEYER DID. IT AIN’T GONNA WORK.

HAHA HARRY POTTER ALL THE WAAY <3

  158. When I first read Twilight, I was a little bit attached, but I wouldn’t admit it to my addicted friends. Then, when I saw just how big the craze was getting, I just started hating Twilight. I mean, seriously, it’s an ok-good book, GET OVER IT ALREADY. What makes this so special?

I’ve read a LOT of really good books that have never gotten the publicity they deserve. But TWILIGHT. A first book written by a NEW author, and it’s just being LOVED by all these people, who don’t know what they’re doing; teenage girls who’ve never read a good book, and so, think Twilight’s as good as it gets. So, even before they’ve read HP, they’re all bigheaded that “nothin’ ain’t gonna get any better than Twilight” and it’s really corrupting the minds of adolescents everywhere, no joke.

HP is just so well-written I can’t really describe it. Well, here’s a way to describe it; it’s WITHOUT DOUBT, better than Twilight. No arguments there. It’s a FACT, hello. And you know, I don’t blame Stephenie Meyer here (well, other than for writing the book in the first place). She isn’t the one who asked for it, I guess. However, the fans are DISGUSTING. I mean, why else would we all have to come up nicknames like ‘Twitard’ & ‘Twihard’ for them? They’re just brainwashed beyond belief, and it’s not pitiful, it’s FREAKING ANNOYING.

So please, get over Twilight. OK, it’s got a semi-interesting storyline, and it’s wording is just TERRIBLE. No big deal. Go and read HP for a change.
