What did you want to do when you were growing up?

Tags: , ,

Did you have a dream career when you were a kid? Perhaps it was to be a fireman and drive around in one of those big, red trucks. Maybe you wanted to be a teacher just like your favourite at school. Or maybe you idolised Madonna and wanted to be a singer just like her.

When you get a bit older you might realise that being a fireman is all about physical hard work and not necessarily just about driving around in a cool truck. Or perhaps you decide you’re not patient enough to be a teacher and start to understand that only very few singers actually make a living from the music business.

Luke Mitchell’s childhood dreams were definitely a polar opposite to his adult reality. Growing up, this Home and Away star wanted to be a professional tennis player but as time went by he realised he didn’t want to do that anymore. Now, he’s just joined the hit Aussie soap to play ‘Romeo Smith’.

How about you? Did you have a childhood dream that’s completely different to your adult reality? Luke is asking you, the Yahoo!7 Answers community, what did you want to do when you were growing up and how does that compare to what you’re doing now? Tell us in the comments section below.

We’ve got Luke asking the question below on video! Luke Mitchell from Home and Away asks a question @ Yahoo!7 Video

So tell us, what did you want to do when you were growing up? How does that compare to now?

  2. I had fun growing up. Friends and good times. Now that I have had breast cancer and also my mum, everything has changed. Friends have gone away. The one good thing is I have a beautiful son who I adore. I want to be healthy and happy. I love my mum dearly. I wanted to be a nurse. I guess I am I now look after mum. I was an executive secretary/assistant at a hospital. Almost got there. I’ll keep fighting. Cheers.

  3. I wanted to be a teacher all my life. I went to uni and studied for it, then realised that because of my anxiety, I don’t want to be the person that could ruin other people’s childrens education.

Now? My goal is to become a stay-at-home mother, to be able to teach MY children in the best way I know how; being there for them.

  8. Hmm,

What I want to be has changed so many times I have lost count! I wanted to be a real estate agent, then a cop, then own my own business. Time is slowly getting away from me so I better bl**dy pick something before I regret not taking action.

My motivation always fails me, it stops me from going out and actually achieving something so then after time what I want changes once more, vicious circle!

It’s taken me 18 years to figure that if I want something I better get moving because time ain’t waiting for nobody.

  9. I once desired to be a missionary. When I finished high school my parents cannot afford to send me to college. I applied in a school as a working student to be able to get a bachelor degree. Elementary education is the only option for me as a working student. I never wanted to be a teacher. Succeeded and became a teacher. When I retired and became a widow, I pursued my dream and did missionary work.

  10. Growing up I had this urge in me to change the world, make an impact on people’s lives. I didn’t have any idea how I was going to do that other than fame and or fortune. Both, it seems, have eluded me. However, my dreams have been fulfilled in that my daughters are the most beautiful and talented women, a true joy to be their mother and whilst I didn’t change the world or make a great impact on peoples lives, my girls have made my life and my world truly wonderful.
