Ronnie James Dio

Today sees the passing of another rock legend, Ronnie James Dio, at the age of 67.
With a career spanning over 50 years, including several stints as the lead singer for Black Sabbath after the departure of Ozzy Osbourne in 1979, he was a key part of the success of their famous Heaven and Hell album. He returned to Black Sabbath in 1991 and again in 2006, as well as forging his own successful solo career with his own bands – The Vegas Kings, Ronnie & The Ramblers, Ronnie and the Red Caps, Ronnie Dio and the Prophets, The Electric Elves, The Elves, Dio and Rainbow. In 2006, he became part of Heaven and Hell along with former Black Sabbath alumni, Tommy Iommi, Geezer Butler and Vinny Appice.
Ronnie’s wife Wendy posted the following statement on his official website:
Today my heart is broken, Ronnie passed away at 7:45am 16th May. Many, many friends and family were able to say their private good-byes before he peacefully passed away. Ronnie knew how much he was loved by all. We so appreciate the love and support that you have all given us. Please give us a few days of privacy to deal with this terrible loss. Please know he loved you all and his music will live on forever.

I’m sure that many of you, like myself, remember the late 80′s and early 90′s with Black Sabbath all over the radio. What is your favourite memory of Ronnie James Dio? Were you ever fortunate enough to experience one of his concerts?
