This week’s featured user is revoltix, a devoted member of the Video & Online games section of Answers. At high school, he was known as ‘Mr Internet’ and ‘The Cool Nerd’ and has now found an outlet for all his knowledge on Answers.

Revoltix is 26 years old and grew up in the south west suburbs of Sydney. His main interests are computers, gaming technologies, playing the guitar and motor sports however above all, his main passion is video games. Whether they’re the latest releases or old school eighties classics, he loves them all.

He certainly brings his knowledge to the users of Answers. From technical questions about online PS2 networks, Playstation patches and reformatting super nintendos to specific game questions such as Halo 3, revoltix has all the Answers. He says:

I give advice on these categories as they are of interest to me and they are things of which of have a vast knowledge of. I’ve setup most video game consoles online, networked computers for LANs and gaming parties, solved problems that Internet Service Providers couldn’t solve, as well as manufacturers of hardware and software. All my friends, either in the real world or in ‘cyberspace’ ask me for the answers before they read their manuals. And if I don’t know, I know where to look for the answer.

It isn’t all computers and gaming in revoltix’s life. He also likes answering in different categories such as pets, philosophy and history to keep things interesting. He even once used Answers to help a work colleague find a friend from ten years ago who was living in a different country. His colleague ended up ringing his long-lost friend and arranged a reunion, all thanks to revoltix finding him.

It’s these sorts of experiences that make Answers worthwhile for revoltix:

Answers gives me the satisfaction that I helped someone. I know how frustrating it can be to seek for something that you think you will never find. You get a great feeling when someone lends you a hand, and that’s what I like to share.

Many Yahoo!7 Answers Top Contributors have very specific areas of expertise and this week’s featured user is no different. Asher3620’s favourite topic is piercing and she spends most of her time on Answers searching for open questions in order to dispense her advice.

Asher3620 notes there isn’t actually a piercing section so she contributes to a broad range of categories. Sometimes she finds it under areas like Fashion, First Aid or Pain Management however most of the questions are in the Skin and Body part of Beauty and Style, which is where Asher3620 enjoys Top Contributor status.

There isn’t an area of piercing that Asher3620 shies away from. Whether it’s tongue piercing, nose piercing, eyebrow piercing, nipple piercing and even areas that you never thought could get pierced, she has advice in spades.  Asher3620 is so popular with her informative, detailed and well written answers that she has 60% best answer rating. Her knowledge comes from working as a Body Piercing Apprentice in an award winning tattoo shop, and also from working in a teen retail store.

Asher3620 has also been active in areas of women’s health, hairstyles, music, and tattoos. Her favourite part of Answers is when the asker choosers ‘Best Answer’ and leaves their feedback. She says: ‘I really enjoy those few words of feedback that let you know you’ve made a difference in someone’s day and answered a question they were really interested in. True it may be a question that could have easily been solved with a two second internet search or a search of Answers itself, but thanks to a few minutes of typing, someone has learned something new. That kind of interchange is what makes Answers so much fun on so many levels.’

From reading some of the feedback, it sounds like the people she has helped has certainly appreciated her wisdom!

Time for another featured user!

This week’s Answers superstar hails from Melbourne and has had many different roles in her life, including Competitive Ballroom Dancer, Beautician, Make up Artist and now full time Mum to two pre-school aged children. Dancesportdiva joined Answers back in December 2006, before the site was even a year old and is now a Level 4 user, with close to 3,000 points and a 29% Best Answer rate. Although the name suggests she’d be a whiz in the Dance category, Dancesportdiva’s Top Contributor badge comes from the Newborn and Baby category, where she can mostly be found answering questions and helping other Mums on the topics of how to predetermine the sex of your baby, what to eat when you’re pregnant, how to deal with baby hiccups and what books are good for children.Dancesportdiva started off in this category but she says she also loves answering questions about movies, beauty & style, health, food & drink and of course – dance!This user is doing so well because of her informative and helpful answers and also because she will only try to answer questions covering subjects she has experience in. This enables her to know she’s giving the right information and ups her chances of being chosen as best!

There’s a saying that if you can make friends with a plumber, an electrician, a doctor, a mechanic and a lawyer you’ll save a lot of money in your lifetime. One of the great things about Answers is that it connects you to all these types of people and one more – who is this week’s featured user.

Goonhilda is a top contributor in the Personal Finance category, has amassed close to five thousand points and has made it to level four since joining the Answers community around three months ago. A resident of Shepparton in Central Victoria, she is a self confessed “tight arse” who describes herself as a bargain queen, is intent on paying off her house within five years and loves it when other people get excited about their money.

Personal Finance is Goonhilda’s favourite hobby and she keeps up to date on the topic by reading anything she can get her hands on about the topic. The knowledge she has gathered has enabled her to help other users with their financial difficulties and questions, be they about how to invest their savings, putting a little bit of extra cash away each week, saving to reach specific goals or paying off a car loan when times get tough. Goonhilda always offers constructive advice and ideas to other users and they are all so grateful that she has helped them get out of their financial pickle!

“I think Yahoo!7 Answers is great. I like the question and answer format, and I enjoy the opportunity it provides for intellectual stimulation. It’s great mental exercise. I also love giving answers and advice to people who really seem to need it. Money can be a scary thing for some people, and I hope I make it not as scary. Sometimes all people need is a little information or someone to crunch some number for them. Sometimes a little humour helps people put things in perspective.”

Goonhilda’s one complaint comes via her “very spoilt pet rabbit” who lives indoors and has never been outside, and is disappointed there isn’t a category for rabbits! Sorry about that Mr Bunnikins – we’ll see what we can do.

This week’s featured user hails from Brisbane and despite only joining Answers at the start of this year has already reached Level 3, amassing 1,677 points and a 66% best answer rate and earning herself a top contributor badge!

miss_hysterical’s contributions in the Beauty & Style category have been very welcome – she’s got all the info on basic makeup techniques, different types of mascara and on how to get luscious looking lips. She’s also got advice for other users on managing hair, how to get the most benefit out of pimple creams, keeping your skin looking healthy and glowing and on what not to do when you’re wearing makeup! Her advice is helpful and informative without going into too much detail and she’s always got a helpful link when it’s relevant.Outside of Answers miss_hysterical is studying a dual degree of Psychology and Law at the University of Queensland. She’s taking those programs because she feels motivated to help others, which is part of the reason why she finds Yahoo!7 Answers so appealing! It allows her to combine her love of helping people with her interest in fashion and beauty.

It can sometimes be difficult to find products that both enhance someone’s best features and express their personal style, but I enjoy the challenge. This week’s featured user has a very appropriate name given the category that she is a top user for.

Noel J hails from Adelaide in South Australia and out of more than 3,000 answers she’s given since joining Yahoo!7 Answers in November this year more than 30 percent have been voted as best. And the category she’s best at giving winning responses for is none other than everyone’s favourite time of year – Christmas!

Noel is mum to 6 adult children, has 14 grandchildren, and has fostered 60 children over the years so she has lots of advice on what can be given as suitable gifts during the festive season. If you’re trying to think of an idea for Dad, for a boyfriend, or even for a priest than it’s likely she’ll pop up with a helpful and friendly response. Noel is also an authority on Christmas lights, Christmas stories and Christmas songs! Plus she’s a pet lover and breeder of Burmese cats and kittens, so she can even answer questions that some of us definitely wouldn’t know the answer to – like how to keep cats out of Christmas trees!

Noel J has had her fair share of struggles, so another thing she has been able to do on Yahoo!7 Answers is help people who aren’t having such an easy time of it over Christmas. Most of her advice and answers come from life experience, and she is happy to share with others.

Introducing this week’s featured user – Menthoids. A self described jack of all trades, this Sydney born user has tried her hand at millinery, making kids’ clothes and writing, however at the age of 44 she decided to officially finish school and complete a degree in Biomedical Science before moving on to a medical degree.

Menthoids is fascinated by physiology (how the body works) and pathophysiology (the mechanisms of disease), so it’s not suprising that she is a top user in the Heart Diseases, Infectious Diseases and Medicine Categories, earning more than 7,000 points and gaining a 49% best answer rate since she joined Answers just a few short months ago.Her experience in the medical field allows Menthoids to answer a wide range of questions on all sorts of health related subjects, including chest infections, blood pressure and chicken pox. She can respond to people’s queries about their cold feet, dispel myths about stretch marks and even talk fitness.Along with being a mother and a grandmother, Menthoids’ grand plan is to become a doctor so she’s an incredibly busy woman! But between writing curriculum subjects and studying she does find time to participate on Answers, where she feels she can really help some people with her advice. Introducing this week’s featured user – Rygar. With a very respectable 49% best answer rate, Rygar has amassed himself nearly 2,500 points since joining Answers mid last year.

Rygar’s answers extend across several categories, but he can very often be found responding to questions in the Perth category, being that he hails from there. He is able to give advice on tourist attractions in the city itself and on various travel destinations around it. Rygar is also obviously a fan of the beach – as a keen fisherman he can often be found many nautical miles to the west of Perth hauling in a feel of dhufish or blachin groper and he’s always got advice for other people interested in getting a line wet. He’s an authority on the best surfing beaches in WA and is also very well travelled – so if you’re asking for info about any other parts of Australia it’s highly likely you’ll get an informed response from Rygar.When he’s not busy prowling Yahoo!7 News, Message Boards or Answers this West Coast Eagles fan is busy working as a senior manager for a multi-national scientific corporation – perhaps the reason why he also has lots of answers for science and chemistry related questions… and even though he lists his other hobbies as focusing on the share market and home renovations he must have a pet that he’s fond of – because he’s also an expert on cat halitosis and weaning kittens!
