Answer Baz Luhrmann’s question…

Tags: , ,

Strictly Ballroom is one of those movies that will always remind me of my adolescence. I think my first crush may have been Paul Mercurio in that tight white singlet and floppy hair. And for a young girl with two left feet, it was quite encouraging to see daggy Fran being transformed into a graceful Ballroom dancing champion with a hundred times more flair than her bleached blonde competitors.

Baz Luhrmann was the writer and director of that classic Aussie movie and it was pretty clear he was destined for big things. He went onto film a remake of the Shakespeare’s classic Romeo & Juliet, thrilled us all with the singing dancing fun of Moulin Rouge and put our country on the big screen with Australia.

Now Baz is looking for a new project and wants your help. He’s asked the Answers community:

If you could influence the next film I make or the next story I tell, what would you encourage me to do?

Check out this video of him asking the question.

Don’t forget to Answer!

Aussie quiz show hosts on Answers

Quiz legends John Burgess, Greg Evans & Ian Turpie with Miss Universe Australia Laura Dundovic and Presenter Mike Goldman on Sydney Harbour this week

Have you seen the question from one of our favourite quiz show hosts John Burgess on Answers? He asked:

There have been some great Answers from the community so far, I particularly like Alycat’s:

Sitting down with my mum eating dinner watching The Goodies. I now sit down with my kids and they love them too. The Goodies are so politically incorrect and most of the time just stupid, but in today’s complicated world this is a breath of fresh air.

and Tarkarri’s

2 most memorable, a single incident and an ongoing show. Will never forget those first steps on the moon, as a child I found it absolutely awesome. The other was sneaking out of bed to watch Graham Kennedy on IMT through the crack at the hinge of the half open door. Half the jokes probably went straight over my head at the time, but the man was truly a master!

Well Burgo and fellow Quiz master legends Ian Turpie (The Price is Right) and Greg Evans (Perfect Match) were down on Sydney Harbour this week promoting PlayStation’s new Aussie themed Buzz!™Brain of Oz Ultimate Quiz Master Legend game. We thought we’d turn the tables and ask them what their favourite childhood TV memory is. Here’s what they had to say…

Burgo isn’t the only celeb we’ve got on Answers at the moment. Bond Girl Olga Kurylenko wants to know What qualities do you need to be a Bond girl and why?, Jennifer Aniston is asking What is your funniest family pet moment?and Australia’s own Nicky Buckley asks What’s the worst cooking disaster you’ve had that set off the smoke alarm?

Are there any celebrities you’d like on Answers? Tell us here and we’ll see what we can do ;-)

Which celebrities do you want to see on Answers?

Tags:

Question: What do Baby Spice, John Howard and Cate Blanchett all have in common?

Answer: They have all taken part in Answers over the last couple of years.

And, they have not been the only ones: there’s a long list of celebrities that have chosen to pose their question to the Answers community and eagerly review your responses.

However, many of you have expressed feelings of concern towards the authenticity of these public figures on Answers. Well, we think you deserve an answer to your questions on this regard: of course they are who they say they are (you’ll recognise them because you’ll see a green badge with the label “official” under their avatar).

It’s that simple. You know us, and we are always talking about our community guidelines, our terms of service, and privacy policy. Well, that applies to us in first instance, and we would never allow someone impersonating a public figure –or a non-public figure, of course.

Now, let us explain the workflow to you: the celebrity asks the question (many even get recorded on video), the community answers the question and the celebrity chooses the Best Answer.

That’s exactly what happened in the case of our latest celebrity: Seann William Scott (see the video here).

And that’s it: there’s no trick or behind-the-scenes movements, and of course they are who they say they are! And… they are amazed at the passion the Answers Community puts in their Answers. Be proud!!

Now it’s your turn to Answer: would you like to see someone asking a question to the community? We don’t promise anything, but we’d love to hear your suggestions and do our best to make your dreams come true!!

Who is your favourite role model and why?

Tags: ,

No matter how confident and competent you are, everyone looks up to someone.  Even the greatest footballers, politicians or celebrities have someone they aspire to being like. President Elect Obama, a man not short on confidence who’s due to be sworn into the most powerful job in the world next week, said recently every time he reads Abraham Lincoln’s second inaugural address he gets “intimidated.”

In light of this and his new film Role Models, Hollywood actor Seann William Scott has a question for us all:

“Who is your favourite role model and why?”

You can see Seann putting his question to the Answers community in the video above. In fact he’s even answered it himself. Scott explains…

“My greatest role model was my dad. I could give you a funny answer… although he was funny. I was lucky I had a great dad, he was kinda like Bill Murray and Chevy Chase: a superfunny guy. I was told some really great factory jokes.”

So who is your favourite role model? A teacher or a superhero? Someone who inspired you or someone who you aspire to be? Answer Seann’s question and let us know.

Calling all Batman fans: Ask Christian Bale your question!

Tags: ,

BatmanBatman is back and it’s one of the most anticipated movies of the year. To celebrate the release of this epic film, we’ve partnered with Yahoo! Movies to bring a little Dark Knight frenzy to Answers.

We’re asking you, the Answers community, for the perfect question for Christian Bale, who plays Batman. The best question will be put to him, on your behalf, by Yahoo! and recorded on video.

So, what do you want to ask Christian?

When you’ve decided on your killer question, email the UK team y_answrs_team_uk@yahoo.co.uk. You have until Monday afternoon 5pm AEST to post your question; the best question will be answered by Christian on video next week and then posted on this blog.

All about Batman

In The Dark Knight actor Christian Bale brings to life Bruce Wayne, aka Batman, who’s fighting against the fearful Joker, played by the late Heath Ledger. Rumour is we see our hero cross the thin line between good and evil like never before…

If you need some inspiration, you could check out some of the questions that have already been discussed on Answers. There’s everything from Batman Comics to a discussion on the differences between The Dark Knight and previous Batman films and even a question about what you can learn from Batman.

Celebs on Answers

This isn’t the first time we’ve seen interesting and popular question from celebrities. Featured on Answers has been the likes of Cate Blanchett, Bruce Willis, and Natalie Portman. But this time, we’ve reversed the rules of the game so one lucky Answers member will have the opportunity to ask our celebrity a question.

Don’t forget to get your question in by 5pm Monday AEST by emailing the UK team y_answrs_team_uk@yahoo.co.uk. For more information on Batman and to preview the trailer, check the Yahoo!7 Movies trailer.

Oprah on Answers

If you were given $1,000 to change the life of a perfect stranger, what would you do?

Earlier this year, I was driving over the Sydney Harbour Bridge and went to pay my toll, but when I tried to pay, the collector told me that the person who drove through before me had already paid. I have no idea who the person was, but they certainly changed my outlook on the day, which started with sleeping through my alarm and getting stuck in bumper-to-bumper traffic.

That night, I decided to make up some small hand-written cards which read, “Random acts of kindness make the world a better place” and a small smiley face. Since I was first on the receiving end of a random act of kindness (RAoK), I have used the cards numerous times. And, like the butterfly effect, the effects can grow much bigger than the original RAoK.

If you would like to start your own RAoK chain, you may like to:

  • pay someone’s toll
  • pay someone’s bus fair
  • pay for someone’s coffee
  • give a homeless person your sandwich on the way to school/work
  • leave Christmas presents for someone who can’t afford
  • join the Free Hugs Campaign

This week, Oprah is asking the Answers community to share how they would help out a perfect stranger if given the opportunity. Her premise for paying it forward is simple – if given $1,000 to help better someone’s life, how would you do it? Members of her audience were given $1,000, a video camera, and one week to complete this task. The act had to be selfless, which for many people is the first of many hurdles in this process.

So, if you had been in Oprah’s audience, what would you have done?

DJ Tiësto looks to Answers for new collaboration ideas

Tags: ,

With whom would you like me to cooperate on a track in the future and why?

When I heard that DJ Tiësto would be asking a question on Answers I was so excited as he is my absolute favourite DJ! As a Gen X/Gen Y-cusp, I grew up with the early techno and dance music era when radio stations were underground and rave parties had mysterious phone numbers to call on the day to find out the venue.

The electronic music scene has come a long way since then and has been greatly advanced by DJs like Tiësto. Born in Holland, DJ Tiësto was the first DJ in the world to have a sold out, one-DJ event in a stadium for more than 25,000 people. His remix of, perhaps my favourite track by Tiësto, Delerium (Silence) by Sarah McLachlan was the first house song ever played during the day on US radio (it stayed in the UK’s top ten for eight weeks). He’s worked with Moby, the Dave Matthews Band, Cirque du Soleil and Disney, and has also played live for billions of people during the athletes’ parade at the opening ceremonies of the Athens 2004 Olympic Games.

Even though Tiësto is mainly known for his contributions to the trance scene, his style has developed into more of a mix of several genres, including trance, house and techno. His productions and sets include everything from fast-paced songs to more mellow tunes and regularly reach the number one spots on European charts.

Tiësto continues to explore new places, and experiment with new sounds in the studio, but he wants to know what you would like to hear, so let DJ Tiësto know who you would like him to work with on a new track.
