So how do I…

Tags: ,

Firstly the big news: the Answers Team have joined Twitter. If you’re a fan of the service, follow us on Twitter for news, competitions and articles about Answers. You can also join using the link ‘Follow us on Twitter’ on the right of this blog.

It’s always nice to be reminded of things from time to time.  Every day the Yahoo!7 Answers Team and our Customer Care Teams take time to review your feedback and try to help you if you have any doubt about how Answers is used. Today we want to recap the most common questions we receive, and the Answers we give.

I want to have an Avatar, how do I do it?

  • Go to Yahoo!7 Avatars
  • Create your avatar
  • Then, go to Yahoo!7 Answers
  • Click ‘My Profile’ then ‘Edit My Info’
  • Select ‘Use my Yahoo!7 Avatar’
  • Click Preview
  • Click Save
  • There you are!

How can I contact another user?

  • You can go to his/her profile and see if they allow communications via e-mail or messenger.
  • If you want to be reachable, you can set that on your profile (we will not display your email address).

How can I add a friend or block someone?

  • To add an existing Answers user – Rollover the picture (or avatar) of the person you’ve chosen to add as your Contact, and click the Add to My Contacts link.
  • To add someone you know outside of Answers – Click here to enter your friend’s name, email address, and a brief message (optional), and we’ll do the rest. Your friend will receive an email from us, with a link to connect to you as a Contact on Answers.
  • Answers ID Card – Rollover the picture (or avatar) of the person you’ve chosen to block, and click on the link “Block User.”
  • Profile Page – Go to the person’s profile page and click on the link “Block User”.

I have seen content I find offensive, what do I do?

  • Yahoo!7 Answers provides a Report Abuse link after every question and every answer. You should complete this form if at any time you are exposed to content that you feel violates the Community Guidelines or Yahoo!7’s Term of Service.
  • Here you can learn more about our moderation system.

How can I keep up-to-date with the latest questions from my network and the news from the blog?

Do you have any other questions? Leave a comment and let us know!

Badge beauty

Tags:

Here at Yahoo!7 Answers we use badges to designate the different types of community members participating in the Yahoo!7 Answers community. Here is an explanation of the different types and their meaning:

– An Official badge indicates that the identity of a community member asking or answering questions on Yahoo!7 Answers has been verified by a member of the Yahoo!7 Answers Team. This helps us distinguish our celebrity, professional, and sponsor participants within the Yahoo!7 Answers community.

– The Staff badge displays when members of the Yahoo!7 Answers Team or other Yahoo!7 staff members officially ask questions on Yahoo!7 Answers.

– The Top Contributor badge is used to recognise a member of the Answers community who has shown that they are knowledgeable in a particular category. The top contributor badge is dynamic, which means that you earn it or lose it depending on your recent participation in a particular category. To learn more about Top Contributors, please review Top Contributor help.

–  A Knowledge Partner is an official expert sharing their knowledge on Answers. To learn more about this program, please review Yahoo!7 Answers Knowledge Partners.

Now, let us show you a couple of examples:

Official – Seann William Scott

Official – IKEA

Staff – Answers Team Australia

Staff -Yahoo!7 Finance Team

Knowledge Partner – Yahoo!7 Shopping

…and we want to wish you good luck to become the next Top Contributor in your favourite category!

New Year’s Resolutions – Answers Style

Tags:

Just in case you haven’t already come up with a list of resolutions for 2009, we thought we’d offer some ideas:

  • I will not post questions like “Are you there?” at 3 o’clock in the morning (or any other time).
  • I’ll refrain from reporting as abuse a recommendation to see the movie “Cabin Boy.”
  • I promise to search for an answer first, before asking, “Why is the sky blue?” again.
  • I will not send a special personal message sharing my insightful thoughts with someone just because I don’t like their answer or question.
  • I will not become a broken record and post the same content over and over again. I will not become a broken record and post the same content over and over again. I will not become a broken record…
  • I will accept that the only good troll is a good-luck troll with so-ugly-they’re-cute-faces and long colourful hair.
  • I will not create 10 accounts so I can rack up points or target other members.
  • I will not respond to a question I don’t know the answer to, just to score 2 points.
  • I will not crash my fellow community members’ computers by posting malware links.
  • I won’t claim Wikipedia’s all-encompassing knowledge as my own and will, in fact, cite the source properly.
  • I will continue to ask and answer helpful questions that make Yahoo!7 Answers such a great place to be.

We’ve also made some of our own resolutions here at Answers. This year we’re committed to continuing our fight against trolls and malware links, and to communicating with you through our product update blogs.

What resolutions can you offer to make Answers a better place?

Where can you find us?

Tags:

Today, we want to remind you about the various ways you have to communicate with us and where you can find more information about Answers.

What do I need to know?

The Community Guidelines and the Terms of Service are two basic documents in which all the guidelines that rule Answers are written. You can find a link to these at the bottom of all Yahoo!7 Answers pages.

If you are about to post something, but are not sure whether it violates the Community Guidelines, you have a handy link at the bottom of the page where you can double check.

Where do you have to go if you want to make an appeal?

If your content has been deleted and, after reading the Community Guidelines and the TOS you still feel it was a mistake, you just need to click on the link “appeal” that appears on the notification email and explain us the reasons why you think the content should not have been taken down. We’ll be happy to review it!

And what about if you don’t know how to do something?

Well, especially for that we have created the help pages. Here you can find info regarding how to use Answers and its various features. Just browse the categories to find what you are looking for.

If you cannot find an answer to your question there, you can always go to the Forum or to the Yahoo!7 Answers category within Answers. This category was especially created for you to ask the community about things you don’t know how to do. The community is always happy to help and the most experienced members are eager to share their knowledge.

Want to be the first to know?

Then, the blog is your place. Here you will find the latest news, tips and other interesting stuff from the Answers Community. Subscribe, watch out and don’t miss our next post!

And what happens if you have feedback?

We’ve also thought about that: you can come to the blog and leave us a comment, go to the forum, or fill in the feedback form that you will find at the bottom of each page. We will be happy to hear your ideas to improve the product!

So, if you have any comment now, go ahead and write it after the post!
